Another Extended Warranty Post
I know this is like beating a dead horse, but this is my story. So anyone that is on the fence about extended warranties on their tow vehicles, this could apply, or maybe not.
Never used them but questioned that thinking after I started dragging 15,000 plus pounds all around the country with my TV. At 35,000 miles I got the Ford ESP for just under $2,000 and it included a rental car if my F350 was in for covered repairs.
Today I noticed a "humming" or "buzzing" noise when outside the truck while it was sitting idling. When shutting it off there was a pressure release noise about a minute later. No error code, nothing on the gauges, and the truck ran good.
Since we were leaving on a short 1330 mile run Monday morning I ran it in to my Ford Dealer in Ft. Myers. Ford diesel tech listened and immediately knew it was some type of vac solenoid and something else associated with vacuum system. Several parts needed and 2 hours labor estimated. He wasn't sure but suspected bill would easily be over $700 and probably more.
I go back and pick it up in two days. Meanwhile I am driving a rental, 2015 Expedition, free of charge of course.
So one more relatively simple issue like this and I will be pretty close to getting my money back on the extended warranty.
Don't really want to get a whole debate going again. Just wanted to point out that even though I didn't have a history of ever purchasing these types of vehicle warranties, I did on my F350 due to the fact I was maxing out it's capabilities.

Had a problem with my 2008 Ford were only half the heating system worked. It was a simple fix that required pulling the dashboard out. Lots of labor. ESP paid.

I have never had a vehicle that I could have used an ESP.

I buy the warranty on all cars and Ford. Not when purchasing unless they prove its discounted. You can always buy them later. Ford had special on bumper to bumper 120k zero deductible and bought it months after my purchase. I only buy the manufacturer policy. No after market or unaffiliated policys.

After my original warranty expired I bought another extended warranty after a front wheel actuator went out to the tune of $400. If I had extended warranty it would have been covered. The next time in I had over $1500 worth of repairs and it only cost about $54. Faulty front wheel bearing, leaking tailshaft and another front wheel actuator. I paid $2900 for 4yr extended warranty and got back $1500 already. I have about 2yrs left on the 4yr deal. I mainly tow with my 2007 Chevy Classic and feel it is worth the price since repairs aren't cheap.

I am on my 2nd ESP from FOMOCO.I have not got my money back in fact except for the Extended service contract on the Montana's we have not got our money back on any Insurance policy. However one major failure and we would. Helen's 3 day hospital stay and surgery was over 53K.She pays 2268 per year out of pocket for her health insurance so that is about 23 years of premiums at todays rate for that one incident.

I got the extended service agreement from ford when I bought me 2015 F350. I looked under the hood and it scared the crap out of me as I could never do any repairs myself. Plus all the computers not only for the engine but for the instrument panel. I just hope I never have to use it. JMHO.

Before I turned 65 my wife and my health insurance with a $2500 deductible was over $2000 per month. After I turned 65 hers dropped to $1100 per month. We were on the healthy Virginian plan . We must do something about health insurance. Just don't ask me what, ain't got a clue.

Have esp on 2013 superduty. Just used it again the other day. Check engine light. They found 2 bad sensors. Last sensor issue had truck sidelined. Would not start. I always get the esp. 7 years. 100,000 miles on this truck

JandC we just had the same thing with our 2011 F350. It was covered under warranty. Service manager went back to have the diesel mechanic come out and look at it and listen to it. When he explained what it sounded like the diesel mechanic said that he knew what it was and told the service manager what parts to order. They replaced the vacuum harness per TBS# 13-10-07. No more actuator type noise now and it is working great.

Fire5er, makes you wonder how common these vacuum related problems have been with the 6.7 engines. The service tech working the "diesel" lane at our Ft. Myers dealership first listened to it and said he thought he knew what it was before he even had a diesel mechanic come out and check it. It only took the mechanic about 30 seconds to check it and tell the service tech what parts would be needed.

You have indicated you are very satisfied with you extended warranty on the Montana.
Would you mind telling us what company it is?

I had never purchased extended warranty until I purchased my current F350 6.7. Bought the truck which was a Ford Program Truck used from a dealer with only 4,300 miles. Dealer asked an unreasonable price for the warranty and I declined. After about 6 months I went online and found a Ford dealer that sold authentic Ford ESP and purchased from them at about half the price. I am happy with the transaction and am enjoying the peace of mind.

On the 2013 3402 Big Sky we have the Good Sam Extended service plan. We have used this plan twice with no problem.
On the 06 3400 we had RV shield. I can not remember how many times we used that over 7 years but it w as several and we had no problems with that one.
As you understand it is all about knowing what you are buying and complying with the terms of the contract. I am also one of those folks who have absolutely no RV repair skills except for the most minor repairs so the service contracts are of great value to me.
The RV shield plan was 7 year plan and this GS plan is on a year to year basis as our RV'ing future is also on a year to year basis.

In the past I always bought the ESP for all of my vehicles Except for my current truck. Figured I have NEVER had to use the ESP in the past so it might be a waste of money....right!?
Well, last Fall while on our trip one of the computer modules on the truck went out while in Las Vegas and after $2800.00 we were back on the road again and hadn't even hit a Casino Yet!! The story gets even better.....About 2 months ago the front brakes started pulling hard to the right and I heard a hissing sound from the front grill. Took the truck in and turns out had to replace both front brake rotors, both brake calipers and brake pads AND replace the A/C Condenser due to a hole in it - $3000.00 total.
Sure wish I had that ESP policy now and will Definitely have it on my new truck!! Only saving grace was we have the Good Sam Roadside Assistance program and it gave us Free Towing to the dealer.

We have the Ford ESP and have used it numerous times. One repair was about $12,000 dollars. We would not drive a diesel of any brand without some kind of warranty. Repairs can be very expensive. Just my HO.

JandC, it does make you think...and why isn't the dealer checking the TSBs when your truck is in for service? It's money in their pocket if they find a TSB that needs to be corrected, right? Why do I have to bring it in a couple weeks later only to find out there is a TSB out on this common problem. But then again it was covered by warranty, and I do have the ESP too.

Hi
Most of the extended warranty policies don’t cover the problems you have described.
A few of the OEM extended warrantees do cover the computer but not the brakes. On the OEM extended warrantee you have to be sure it is a full bumper to bumper warranty like the new warranty or it also doesn’t cover the computer or electrical system.
You have to be very careful about reading the fine print to make sure you are getting what you think you want.
Under no circumstance go by what the sales person says!
