New tires

Hi all.
Looking for some feedback on good year Endurance 235/8016 10 ply tires
For my 2013 3100rl.
We plan on doing some beach camping . I’ve been told that the radial tire is better to air down .
My understanding is a higher ply tire (all Steel ) will not offer any flotation and is actually detrimental to the higher ply tire .
Anyone out there with beach towing experience using endurance or similar tires ?
Thanks

Sal

That is an "E" rated tire, aka Load Index of 123, with a capacity of 3,417 Lbs. which is less than 7K (the axle rating) for two. Insufficient for your Montana and it has *NO* reserve capacity.

Thanks Carl,
What puzzles me is that keystone manufactured this camper outfitted
This 3100RL with Goodyear marathon 235/8016 E
The tires are in the specifications .
Screens class action lawsuit.

I am pretty sure Montana had 7K axles on everything on 2013. But you might check the placard on the driver's side by the propane locker to be sure. Those tires are OK if you have 6K axles.

Please step up to 14 ply steel. You will have some reserve to count on

I looked at the specs. If the dry weight and CCC were maxed out, and the hitch weight deducted, it could be on 6k axles, so theoretically E-rated tires should be adequate. If it were me and the wheels were rated 110psi, I'd just go with F or G-rated tires and use the mfgrs. load table to adjust psi downwards. This is a prime example of Keystone using the cheapest option available.

2013 was before the rules changed for the RV industry. That trailer very likely came with Load E tires, which is barely the rating needed for the EMPTY WEIGHT of that trailer. Today, that same trailer would likely come with Load F or Load G rated tires, which are more in line with the rating needed to manage the GVWR of that trailer.

Personally, I wouldn't even consider E rated tires on that trailer. Upgrade to Load G tires. Sailun or Carlisle.

Those Goodyear Endurance tires are very good tires. They come factory on several other manufacturers 5ers. They get good reviews and made in USA.

Where do you guys get info that E rated at 3400lb are not enough? This rig has max weight of 14,200 or so. Take off 2500 (or more) hitch weight and you ae at 11800. That is well under the 13,600 for the 4 E tires.

Where do we get E tires aren’t enough? From the blowouts members here had when most if not almost all our members had when we had these tires several years ago.

Thanks all !
I checked the placard and trailer has 6K rated axles.
I’m thankful for the great conversation my inquiry has generated .
It has given me a better education from you more experienced rv owners .
I completely agree with all sides of the discussion.
For me it’s more a matter of application.
I was aware of and was seriously considered getting g rated tires .
My reluctance in getting g rated tires is because here on Long Island we do a fair amount of beach camping which would require me to air down the trailer tires for better flotation .
It’s an absolute must when towing on the beach.
My understanding is I will not only ruin an all steel tire but it wouldn’t offer the flotation needed and I might even pop a bead .
My absolute thanks for everyone’s input.

I have used Michelin for 14 years. I think maybe the issue was the crappy brands used and also they may have been ST tires which have speed limit of 65 and people drive faster than that.

If you are beach camping you probably already know this but here it is...

Stuck in the mud.
Use short 2x4. DO NOT OVER STEER.
You will rip out your wheel wells.

Personally I would not run a 10 ply St tire on that Montana.. The placard states that as the spec but its a placard...

a 14 ply G rated ST tire is gonna be the winner all around... My 2014 came with 10 ply E rated and the first thing I did was toss those and install 14 ply..

The very next year (2015) my RV and the entire series of floorplans all suddenly cam OEM with 14 ply tires.. In my case it was the exact same model #

Why? Because they knew the 10 ply E rated tire wasn't enough tire..

YMMV

IMO, the ST235/80R16 LRE tires will make more than satisfactory replacements. They will provide more load capacity reserves than recommended by RVIA and some brands like Carlisle & GY have sidewall scuff guard protection.

i'd suggest moving up to the 'G' if your rigs can handle them. there are quite a few names out there

We only run G loads on our rigs. Turned away from E loads years and years ago.

Almost as good as a best oil thread. But kidding a side nothing should be run at more than 80% of it capacity if you want it to last or not give you trouble. This has been proven in Manufacturing.
Tires
Generators
Electric motors
Springs
Heating elements
Bearings
Air suspensions
Fail safe products
Wifes
Chairs
Oil changes Rotella 5-40 syn. (the only oil to use)
Batteries of all kind
Max temp. on anything
Etc.............

That is probably not applicable for almost all OEM RV trailer tires. Tire industry standards also have an 80% rule. It reads something like this; when a tire is found to be 20% below vehicle manufacturer recommended cold inflation pressures. It is considered to be in a "run flat" condition and needs to be removed from the wheel to check for internal damages.
