I'd tell her you figured this out. This way, it will be her fault next time if she forgets to remind you to open it up and she uses the MW anyway. Sometimes two heads remembering are better than one.

That worked for me with the stovetop. I forgot to unlatch the exhaust fan cover once and the noise was higher than normal and she noticed. Now if I forget, she asks me if I've done it before she needs it. Two heads are better than one and she'll love the fact you admitted you forgot something and was honest about it.
