Shower cracked on new unit

We were cleaning the shower yesterday and, for the first time, noticed a crack. It looks as if something hit it from the back side or a screw was driven into it from the back (can't feel anything sticking through) or damaged prior to installation.

At this point it is small, but I am worried it will grow. I'm also concerned that replacement will be a major issue; the shower stalls are put in before the walls go up. I have an appointment to take it in next week.

Has anyone had an issue similar to this?

That looks like something hit from the back. I pretty sure you can't get the shower in or out once it has been installed just like in a S\B house but they can fix and re-jell coat it.
I saw that done in M\H one time.

No experience with the sidewall, but got a crack in the shower pan on one of our previous fivers. Pan was white, patched with a porcelain repair kit from Home Depot, good as new. Crack never came back and patched blended in well with the pan. In your case, I would be concerned whether what caused the original damage would redamage the fix.

I disagree with the removal part of this. A few years ago I remodeled our S & B master bath. I removed a full size jetted tub all by myself. Took it out the bathroom door, out the bedroom door, down a 14 step staircase, and out the front door. I did this all by myself and was 55+ at the time. Not bragging, but saying I think it can be done. I would want/insist on a new one if under warranty.

I'm of that opinion also. They can get it out and replace it and I would have that done so I could see what caused the problem in the first place.

We understand your disappointment but it can be repaired successfully.

Our previous 2014 3455 had the same issue but just down at the corner below yours. Of course the first time it gets noticed is on wipe down after the first shower or two.

Pretty sure the unit won't fit through the bath door and if it did one wouldn't be able to turn it and go down the hall with it.

Our dealer took our unit back to their shop and had it repaired claiming you won't see the repair after It's done and they were true to their word. After 3 years of use it was still perfect when we traded in.

That is what worries me.

Good news, thanks. I was thinking a boat shop might handle it better, but forgot that the outside of these trailers is gelcoat; a dealer should be able to take care of it; as long as a screw is not poking in (can not feel one).

We always believed the damage to the surround was done from a corner impact before or during unit construction.
Was a real sick feeling though when it was first discovered. Looking back now it was no biggie.

You took out a jetted tub, not a shower enclosure that is no way coming out the bathroom door and down the steps and out the door..There's simply no way. they put in in before the walls were there, and it's not coming out any other way.

can`t make this stuff up

AS a former custom home builder I have had to repair many tubs and showers from accidents on the job. Any tub repair guy can fix this and you`ll never know it happened . If the cause is still behind the shower he can remove what ever it is then do the repair I usually paid 125.00 to 150.00 for each repair. Don`t even think about taking the tub out, way more trouble than it`s worth.

It is going to be repaired, I'll let you know how it goes. Mark is correct, they put the shower stall in before the walls go up.

Update: I took the unit to the closest dealer who said they would look at it. As I mentioned previously, they said since I had not bought it there, I would have to pay them and seek reimbursement from Keystone. I opened a ticket with Keystone and kept them updated on the status. After a month, the dealer told me they would not be able to get to it until spring. I asked Keystone if they would reimburse me if I took it somewhere else and was told probably. At this point I was willing to pay for it if necessary; it would only be a few hundred dollars. I picked the unit up and took it to a fiberglass specialty shop. They fixed the original crack and another one that had not been noticed yet; did a great job. The shower was obviously dropped or bumped prior to or during installation. After submitting photos and an invoice to Keystone, I received a reimbursement check for the full amount.

Keystone was very easy to work with and I am pleased with their support.
