Air Conditioner Question

Hi Everyone:

I have domitec 13.5 air conditioner in the bedroom (front section) of our 2015 Big Sky 379rl. From day one we have been having an issue with this unit cycling constantly. When it starts up the compressor delay hourglass comes on the thermostat and the unit starts up normally with cold air coming out of the vents. Then the unit shuts down and the compressor delay hourglass comes on the thermostat. The shut down occurs before the unit reaches the thermostat set point. After a period of time the air conditioner will start up again and after a short time it will shut down and repeat the process. The other air conditioner does not do this. It will start up and run normally until the set temperature is reached and then it will shut down until the temperature rises above the set point.

Can anyone tell me what is going on and what I can do to get this unit operating correctly. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

Are you hooked up to the shore power with your big heavy cord? And at least 30amps?

This really sounds like a loose connection, which might be why the hour glass shows up each time, just like it would if you lost the power momentarily, and it came right back on. I would be checking the power connections at the A/C unit, as well as the connection at the breaker in the electric panel.

If it's happened since day 1 ... sounds like you may be low on freon on that unit.

Or might it be that a vent is pointing directly at the sensor.... john

Ding...ding...ding...and the winner is jcurtis934! We were having the same problem soon after getting our new Montana in 2012 and this was what our problem was. Re-directed the vent in the bedroom to not blow towards the thermostat sensor and problem solved.

Hi Everyone:

Thank you so much for all of the great suggestions! I did turn the vents away from the sensor. No change. I have an AC tech coming out to check the unit. I will post once I learn anything.

Regards,

Steve

Possibly unit is freezing up (freeze sensor misplaced or loose). Otherwise the sensor and vent redirection fixed most of my problems...

I also would vote for the bedroom sensor being the problem. The location of mine (ceiling corner, a few feet away from roof air vent) is a horrible location. If I leave my main ceiling dump vent open on the air conditioner it will cause mine to cycle more often than it should. If I keep it closed completely it cycles normally.

This is why I search this forum when I have issues. Arrived at a campsite this afternoon and after leveling and connecting power, the DW tells me the A/C is not working. Not good when it's 90 degrees outside and 88 inside. Checked the breaker, thermostat and voltage, all OK. Searched the forum and found this thread. Ahha; check the connections... So, I cut the power, removed the vent and filter and found a connector that supposedly locks hanging loose. Once connected, parts put back and power restored the A/C came back on. The DW is happy! Thank you.
