Residential Frig wiring?

On the new units with a residential frig, they run on 120vac. They come with a inverter which provides 120vac.

Question:
does the frig run off the inverter all the time and the converter keeps the battery's up when shore power is available?
or
does the frig run off shore power and when shore power is not available a transfer switch moves the frig to the inverter?
or
do they have a combination inverter/converter with a built in transfer switch?

Thanks Jim

Jim it's my understanding that a power management system is used so that it cycles from shore power to the inverter as needed. Not sure if Keystone uses this system but I know that this is the system that is used in the DRV units.

At the 2014 Fall Rally they stated the Inverter does the "Smart" switching itself. When AC power is available it uses the AC 120 volt. When it is lost the inverter switches to use the 12V to 120 volt inverter option.
I hope this helps.
Safe Travel.

Don't know how Keystone is doing it, but we have friends with a motor home with a residential refer. They do not have a converter/charger they have an inverter/charger. When on AC power the refer runs on AC power. When the AC is turned off, they must manually turn on the inverter which then powers the refer. They also have four 6v batteries. Sometimes, if on a short trip, they don't even bother turning the inverter on, just leave the refer door closed and drive on.

I second John Kohl's statement on what we were told at the 2014 MOC Fall Rally when it was announced Keystone is going to put residential refrigs in specific units.

Just remember that transfer switches can have issues and the OEM one was supplied by the low bidder.

I will try and clarify. The fridge is plugged into a dedicated outlet that is connected to the inverter. The inverter is connected directly to the battery thru a shut off. The inverter is also plugged into the trailer 120v system with a plug in the basement. this allows for 120v passthru when connected to shore power. As stated the inverter is a smart switch and will automatically switch from passthru mode to inverter mode when needed if turned on. I usually just turn mine off if I am connected to shore power and turn back on when I am going to disconnect shore power and leave. I hope this helps.

Jason, Thanks, that is like my pusher, except my inverter was also a battery charger. The inverter on yours has a transfer switch in the inverter and a separate converter to charge the batteries.

If you unplug the inverter the frig recep will be dead? right? If you turn it off the normally closed transfer sw will allow pass thru to the frig.

Jim

Correct. if it is unpluged the fridge outlet is dead. If it is off the transfer switch allows passthru voltage.
