AC not working on fridge

Getting Monte ready for next week and had the fridge turned on however after a few minutes it blew the 50amp, dedicated beaker, in the house. Tried resetting and the same thing happened. Switched over to propane only, reset the breaker and everything is OK.
Any suggestions on what to look for?

Thx

Dick, It sounds like the electric heating element on the fridge has shorted out. That's the only thing in your refrigerator that uses 110 volt a/c. It's easy to replace but you probably have to remove the refrigerator to do so. Jim

I think ours is accessible through the back panel. I believe we had it replaced a couple of years ago. At that time it just didn't cool electrically but did not blow the breaker.

Might need to straighten me out a little... Are you saying you are hooked up to shore power and it tripped the 50 at the house breaker or do you have a 50 in the trailer just feeding the fridge and that is what tripped.. I would think the 50 amp in the trailer would be feeding everything including both AC units etc.. It might be everything was on at the same time including water heater and you were drawing to much amps for breaker and when you switched to propane it was drawing under 50 amps.. Just my thoughts..

Blew the 50 shore power. Nothing else on except Fridge. With fridge on gas breaker does not blow. Pretty sure it's the heating element.

I would try this.. Turn off all the breakers in the trailer at the panel and then turn them on one at at time.. This will confirm which breaker is tripping your shore power.. I can not believe you do not trip the 15 or 20 amp circut that supplys your fridge first.. Something fishy going on here I think..

Hope that is true Dick. If it is, should save you a ton of $. Let us know how you come out. Jim

It was replaced a few years ago when we were at a cg in Fl. Watched him replace it. Looked pretty easy, I hope.

This seems to be a continuation of last years problem. No fridge at all but seemed to self correct so haven't worried about it since. It worked ok before now the problem is back.
Checked with answer.com and did the following: disconnected the leads from the heater and tested ohms which read 43 which is correct. with leads disconnected turned fridge back on to electric and house breaker did not trip. Assumption being that there is a short in the heater element and needs replacing.
When asked why the house breaker trips and none of the rv breakers I was told
"Good question... Normally when the element is shorted it can do that and not trip the breaker inside. See it also with water heaters where the element will only trip the supply post. I think since it did not blow with the element hooked up it would be a good to replace it.

Replaced the element on Friday and it seems to be OK. I was able to do it w/o removing the fridge. Most time consuming was getting the old element out as it was rusted in the tube. Kept spraying, wiggling and tapping upward until it came out. Took about an hour to remove and 20 minutes to install.
