Under-stair light without scare light coming on?

I have a 3400RL and have many times wanted to turn on the under-stairs light for a late-night return to my trailer, but I hate to leave on the obnoxious-to-my-neighbors scare light that comes on with the same switch. DUMB wiring! Has anyone figured out how to correct this?

You might replace the door side scare light that comes on with the step light with a motion sensor controlled scare light. That way, the scare light is off unless a person walks by. Found this one doing a search: http://tweetys.com/round-smart-motio...rch-light.aspx

We just replaced the porch light with a motion detector and don't need the stair light anymore. Others have wired the under stair light to it's own switch.

We seldom have need for the scare light ... I just removed the bulb.

I replaced my porch light and door side scare light with the star light motion lights last year. They work great and now my scare light is off (unless somebody walks by) and my amber step light and the led hitch light is on all night to light my flag and for subtle area lighting so it is not pitch black around my camper. I was thinking about replacing the opposite side scare light also but since it's tucked between two of my slide outs the motion detector would be useless unless you walked right past the 3 ft area between the slides.

In your post you were asking "how to activate the Under Stair Light without the Scare Light being on". What I did was remove the under stair light fixture to find the color of the power wire running to it. I then removed the Main Switch panel in the Montana. The power is fed from the Door Side Scare Light Switch. I located the wire leading to the under stair light there and disconnected it.

Now at this point you can do 2 different things, 1) either add another switch for that light itself or... 2) Attach it to another light switch of your choice.

I attached mine to the switch for the Cap Lights. That helps finding my rig at night easier and also lights the stairs.

By the way.....I also added a motion light in place of the porch light and that helps a lot also!

Hope this make sense to you. If not PM me and I'll try again to better explain it. Good Luck! Scott

I moved the wire(gray w/yellow tracer) to the porch light. Works very well.
