3850FL Door Problem

I have a 2014 Montana 3850FL. At the top of doors on the outside is a pneumatic arm that restricts movement when opening the doors completely. Holding this arm are two brackets (mounted on the exterior), one mounted to the body, one mounted to the door. The mounts bear a fair amount of stress and one of the brackets that attaches to the door itself actually pulled off of the door. The screws that Keystone had mounted it with were not heavy enough so I put in larger diameter stainless screws and finished them off with Loctite red. The bracket again is loosening up with he screws pulling out. My guess is that the brackets are not attached to anything structural in the door. The brackets are the only way the door is secured in the open position so just taking them off is not an option. I do have some photos of this but I do not know if I can attaché them here. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

You may have to use through bolts or some of the new products that basically do the same as a through bolt but look nicer. I think they have a larger flat base and are threaded on the inside to receive a screw or small bolt. Try checking at some of the specialty bolt/fastener stores. They will probably have something that will work for you.

I installed a shock on the front door of the 2013 3402rl and felt the bracket was too small to install on the door. I cut a flat piece of aluminum and screwed it to the door and then screwed the bracked to the door to get the added support. So far working great

This issue can be found in the archives along with all the issues in trying to fix. Mine lasted one day after buying my monte. The strut was a 40lb strut, not a 10lb as noted by lippert website. Inside the door is foam. I also went bigger screws, which also failed. Also used threaded inserts with expanding rubber outside and these pulled out as well. What has been working for 2.5+ years is stainless steel bolts with spacers inside the door so that door skins aren't cracked, with a brass plate inside painted to blend in. Also the only time you see the inside is if you have the door open, but heck, it's a trailer. John
