How to carry two Bicycles with our 5th wheel

I have a Montana 2955RL and we want to carry two bikes with us. What is the best method to carry the bikes? Any suggestions?
Thanks

Do you have a hitch receiver on the back of your trailer? If not consider having a receiver welded, or bolted to your frame, and pick up a bike carrier that slides into the receiver that will handle multiple bikes. We have one and it works great.

I have a long bed truck (you don't say about yours) and two 26" bikes with the quick remove front wheels. I just remove the front wheels and lay the bikes in the bed of the truck in front of the hitch. I can even lay my grandson's bike in the bed behind the hitch.
Some have a receiver hitch put on the back of the Monty. Some put a receiver hitch on the front of the truck. And there are some who have had a special receiver mounted to the top of the pin box.

We went to CW and bought a pair of 6 speed folding bikes and carry bags. They fit into our basement. Also got cushier seats for them. i think price was 2 for $300 last year when we got them.

Long bed truck and we place them both with their wheels still on in front of the hitch with a mat between them for added protection. Before the long bed put one of them in truck layed the other one on the bed on top of an old blanket, the bike never moved.

I used to hang two bikes off the ladder with a bike hanger that they sell but it was a real hassle strapping them up. We now have the foldable bikes and haul them in the storage compartment.

As dpam said, a bike rack that slides in a receiver hitch on the back of the Montana is the best way to go. We have a Hollywood 3-bike carrier that works great. When traveling I can carry the bikes on the back of the Montana and when running empty I can carry the bikes on the back of the truck.

Walt, Long bed or short bed truck? We have a long bed and I built a simple floor frame w/quick release fork clamps that sits behind the cab. Works very well, and bikes are secure in the truck bed. Was just up your way to see wife's family near Whitehouse Station!!

Ours go in the back of the truck, up against the cab.

If you are interested in installing a hitch like I am, there is another topic on hitches on your Montana with more info.

I’m interested in hauling a couple of bikes myself. What I’m trying to figure out is if there is enough clearance for a rack behind the truck. I saw a photo of someone on here doing just that and was wondering about the clearance.

We put a receiver on the front of the truck for a rack that holds up to 4 bikes. The rack frops down so I can access the hood and engine w/o removing the bikes. The only bad thing is that it extends the front of the truck by about 2 feet.

After going through this we hrdly ever bring our bikes. Now that we are almost snow birds we will take them to Florida next year.

We have a 2955 05 and we put a hitch on the back of the Montana for a 2 bike carrier. Works very well. We have changed it this year to carry 1 bike and a small 50 cc scooter.

I made my hitch as I tow a SeaDoo sportboat. I bought the Reese bike rack from KMart a few years back. It was designed to bolt under the hitch ball, but I cut the foot off of it and welded the rest on the hitch tounge. Sturdy and works good. I did have a bike carrier on the ladder ... I will never go to that setup again. When following a camper with a ladder mount bike rack, you won't believe how much they flop around!

Hi Walt,
Here are some pictures of some Rube installing a hitch on a 3400RL, the hitch can be purchased at any hitch shop, they measure the frame distance, cut the square stock and sell you a kit. Or, you can have them install it. The kit leaves the ball attachment under the bulbous rear end of the Monte, so I had to get an extension. I drilled and bolted the extension to secure it from moving around.

We also have a long bed truck and place two bicycles in the bed of the truck. I take both front wheels off and one pedal off of each bike. Also turn the handle bars 90 degrees on both bikes so they will lay mostly flat. One bike lays in front of the hitch partly under the across-the-bed tool box. The other lays behind the hitch partly under the Blue Ox Bedsaver. Takes about 10 minutes to restore the bikes to riding conditon.

I carry two bikes on the front of my RV and transfer the bike rack to my truck receiver to carry the bikes when in camp.
A Canadian company makes them. They are not inexpensive, but works very well. Called Toppoprails.
