rods under Montana
The rods have electric coiled around them and they slide in and out. They are 1/4 inch rods x 4.5 feet long. We have found out that ours are bent, both of them. The ends are broken off. What we need to know is how this happened and has anyone had this happen before. It should not have happened in our opinion. This is under the living room/kitchen slide. We own a 28.5 rear kitchen model, year 2000. Any help will be appreciated.

I have no idea what you are talking about, but that's not unusual for me! Do you have any pictures?

We have some rods on ours but I don’t think it would be a problem being bent if they are like ours. One or two of our rods seem to be supporting the wiring for the slides. They are kind of wrapped around them somewhat. The rods I’m talking about don’t appear to be hooked to anything only they slide in & out with the slide. Hopes this is of some help.
Ours is an older model, what model is yours?
Here is a photos of ours...
Also a great big welcome to the forum!

I believe those rods are just supports for the coiled electric wire to prevent pinching and binding of the wire, causing short circuits.

Our first Montana was a 2001 model 2955RL, which had the rods of which you speak. Their purpose is to hold the coiled electrical wire from sagging. The end of the rod which is inside is not attached to anything, and that's okay. The outboard (outside) end should be attached to the slide and the rod should move in and out with the slide. My guess is that as the slide is coming in the inboard end is hitting on something underneath and causing it to bend. You can solve this by inserting the rod through a piece of PVC pipe and attaching the pipe to the underside of the rig so that the rod slides in and out of the pipe and doesn't dangle loose. Remember you will need to remove the belly pan (no easy task!) in order to gain access for attaching the PVC. Let me know if you have any questions. (As dictated by Bob)

I think I have this set up on my 2002 3295rk. It is on the living room slide on my rig. I will look at it in the AM to see what the cables do if I can see under there.

I think this is the same as the rods on your rig. I would try remove the rod without removing the belly pan. If it comes out I would order a new rod from this link or any steel fabricating shop, I would replace with a cold rolled rod. Here is a photo and link to metal supply on the web. You can see a larger photo by linking on web album below.

Drifty That is the rods. Thanks for the picture. My rods are out of the camper, But I don't know what caused them to bent, and one broke off at slide end. They weere bent in several places.

L2000 I do not know what goes on inside the frame. But you might try and run the new rod in and out by hand to see if it is hitting any thing in the frame
