Broken 3750FL Slider Cable

We were down in North Carolina last year when we experienced a slider cable failure on the RH slider in the living room of a 2011 3750FL. Of course, it was pouring outside when it happened. Got it pushed back in, but wondering whether anyone else has had the cable fail on a 3750FL. We have the slider toppers, so it didn't get anything jammed against the seals.

Never had one fail but if I do I can fix it and be back on the road in about 30 minutes. If just the end pops off the cable that is a 15 minute job. I own a machine shop and have made replaceable cable ends that you can install with a screw driver and a 3/32 Allen wrench. If the cable breaks I carry 25 feet of 5/32 cable. I give these to MOC mambers. I f you won't a set let me know.

Any chance you could post a photo of what you fabricated?

Mike I'm sorry I don't have a pic account to up load it to. I can describe what it is. The outside peice is 5/8 OD and .3 long with 2, 10 32 set screws on opposite sides. It is machined in the form of a T to fit in the slot in the bracket on the slide. The inside peice is 2 inches iong with 3 set screws and taped for 1/4 20 threads on the other end.
Rondo and several others can post pictures they have my permission to do so. If they do I will answer your questions. I can assure you they will work, I've tried them by trying to pull the cable out of them in a vice. It takes far more pressure to pull the cable out of them than to move a slide.
I have designed other things. You can go to my web site to see other things. I designed every thing there. This could be the simplest thing.

Here's a pic of Lynwood's excellent fabrication. This one rides in my toolbox; fortunately I haven't had to use it.

Thanks again Lynwood.

It's simple, easy to install, requires mimial tools and most important it will get you back on the road. A couple years ago one of our members had a end pop off a cable that left him stranded for a week. I thought that is not going to happen to me so I started making these. All I would ask is if you have one and someone needs it give it to them and I will replace it.

Here is a link to my first post on the Moc I believe I have had 3 cables break now and another is frayed and unraveling at this time.

http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...earchTerms=DAR

And these cables are a bear to replace on the 3750fl since the facia has to be removed from the front of the slide inside and there is not much room to squeeze in between the slide and the entertainment center at the front or the coat closet at the other end.

Lynwood, I would like a set but only if I can pay for them. I do not have the skill set to fabricate.

Mike I have a friend who owns a furniture store. We were talking last week he told me I had a very nice relationship with money, I didn't give a damn about it. Nobody ever paid me for one of these and you can't either. It's fun to design a product, take it to market and have it accepted. This has been accepted better than I had hoped it would. That means I need to make up another batch. Send me your address and when I can, probably in the next week or 2 I'll send you one.

Lynwood, do you have a cable replacement kit, or is it just the piece that fits in the bracket on the slide? My cable is frayed/broken, and of course it is the left side closest to the entertainment center like DAR points out, making it more difficult to replace. I am not giving much hope of my dealer knowing how to replace it, although I have downloaded the instructions from the norcoind.com/BAL website to help him out. It may come down to, "if you want it done right, do it yourself"!

An update: ordered the cable replacement kit for the BAL Accu-slide system and got it installed! Dealer wanted $500 to fix it. Cable kit (cable, grommet, ferrule, adjusting nut and anti-vibration sleeve) was under $35. Had to also buy a cable cutting tool and a crimping tool (the BAL website requires three crimps on the 5/32 inch cable). Hardest part was getting the cable started between the pulley and guides, and then getting the first crimp on the cable with limited access on top of the room. Oh, and since it was the upper cable closest to the entertainment center, accessibility was not good as DAR previously pointed out. Taking off and replacing the facia was done with many extensions on my 1/4 inch drive.

Thanks again to Lynwood for sending the cable repair kit...much appreciated for any future emergency repairs!

Hey ohiomoen, would you post the the URLs of where you found the replacement kit, the cutting, and the crimping tool you bought. I am unsure what pieces parts I will need but 5 cables have failed so far and I am tired of paying a steeler to repair them.

Thanks in advance!!!

The cable system is made by BAL Accu-slide, which is part of Norco Industries. You can find the cable replacement kit on page 15 of their on-line service manual:

http://norcoind.com/bal/downloads/ac...ice-manual.pdf

I tried to order that from Norco Industries, but they sent me to an RV dealer in Carthage MO called Colaw RV Parts. Total bill with shipping was $32.95

The wire rope/cable cutter I bought was a Greenlee 722. I bought from Amazon for $26.68 + $9.97 S+H. I have since found it in large hardware stores (not necessarily big box stores). I was skeptical at first, thinking it wasn't stout enough, but it does an excellent job of cutting the cable with no fraying.

The wire rope/cable crimper I bought was an Apex Tool Group 7679038 18" swaging tool, $44.12 from Amazon with free shipping over $49, so you may want to buy the crimper and cutter both from Amazon. I found out that the jaws are very stiff when new, and I took the support strap off that is held on with the bolts for the first crimps. Even so, it was a bear to get the first crimp done with limited access (website states you need 3 crimps for 5/32 cable). I used a piece of wood against the top frame and rested one arm of the crimper against that and used both hands to close the crimp.

I just had the exact same cable fail. I heard something goofy / grinding like the last two closings and thought I was crunching a branch. I looked and didn't see anything until this past weekend, when it was really bad. Focusing closely, I saw the cable is frayed and all but one strand is broken. I've heard a couple people say you have to remove all the facia, but my slide is in and looks fairly accessible. I was wondering if I put it out about 1/2 way, if that would make the repair easy without taking apart the interior trim.

I have done them with out pulling off all the trim. Yes put the slide part way out so can get to the out side parts to. Their are a lot of good U tube vid's out you can watch if you haven't ever done one before on how to replace the cable and make all the adjustments.

I would like to get one of your slide cable repair ends. looks like the best way to repair or replace cable. Do you sell them.

Hello, just joined this club. We have a 2011 3750fl montana. Our LH side cable broke at the ends on top and bottom. Much like the others on this forum. How do we go about ordering 2 from you?
