Do you or have you taken these precautions?
Couple questions : First, if we leave the RV for the day or longer, I make a habit of turn off water, and turn off hot water heater to trailer. Does anyone else do this?
Second, after a recent sewer valve problem last year, I put an auxiliary "Twist on gate valve like one in link". Wife found out hard way that one of the gray tank valve was not fully closed. Water gathered in sewer line while traveling. When she removed the cap, she nearly got a bath. Reading couple recent posts about broken gate valves, I was wondering if anyone else added one to their Montana?

Been using one for 7 years and wouldn't be without it! Learned my lesson by watching the guy at a dump station in front of us - his black tank valve evidently broke (open, of course) and he was trying to take the cap off to dump. What a gross mess!!! Wasn't even wearing gloves.

Installed one when I put the long tube on the swivel. After you install, drill small hole thru a lug and insert a small pin. After all, they are called twist off and we do not like surprises.

We do that when we leave the stick house. I try to remember to turn the water off the camper. We do not turn off the hot water heater. We have installed the gate valve at end of the system. Never had a problem but took the advice of MANY here on the forum.

I glued a valve right at the outlet
Did it for the same reasons you did.
I will also close this valve and open both grey tank valves when we boondock if I'm running out of room in the galley or grey tanks and let them level out together.

We always turn off the water when we leave have been doing that for over 30 years

We turn the water off and have a valve......got tired of having a little piddle come out every time I took off the cap. And as usual, got that great advice here!!!

We turn off the water and the water heater mostly because we have cats. Added the gate valve a couple of years ago.

We do both as well. Twist on gate was added before I ever needed to dump the tanks. Been down that road once before. I also dump a bit of grey first just to make sure the hose and connections are good. Been down that road as well, that was waaay gross. Luckily on my own property in the desert.

If we go out for just the day and it is a decent campground I don't turn off anything. I do have the heavy duty supply hoses though. They also make that valve with a 45 deg clear angle on the end and a tank flush attachment too. Course I never had to use the tank flush part till I got the Montana. Do got to remember to pull this one open too, forget and you end up standing in nasty water in the shower lol lol

we have never turned off the water but it won't hurt to do so. We have a end valve.

We have the twist-on gate valve and turn off the water but not the water heater.

Had a leaky black water tank valve that the dealer took apart and repaired under warranty which started leaking again. I added the twist on gate valve and it works great. Always turn off both incoming and hot water switch when away for the day.

We don't turn off the water or the water heater and haven't had a problem in the past, but doesn't mean we won't.
We have the twist on gate valve, but haven't put it on yet, but after this weekend we also had the "little piddle" so will install that tonight!

Yes to both. We turn off the water after reading several posts about rig getting flooded. Yes to the gate valve because my gally tank does not close tight.

Just ordered the gate valve. With the problems i just encountered with the cable valve breaking.
Always learn something new eeveryday.
We turn our water off if we leave for the day, also turn the pump off when dry camping.
