Porta-Bote

I thought I would lay this on for those of you that would want to have a small boat with you when you are traveling. We just bought a Porta-Bote that folds up to 4 inches thick X 24 inches wide and 12 feet long! It weighs 58 lbs. You read it right!!! We just had our maiden voyage yesterday and everything works great. We have a 5HP motor to make it go and it weighs just 60 lbs. I am making mounting brackets for underneath the Monty in the front. Going to Chesapeake bay the end of the month. It has a capacity for 500 lbs, has 3 seats, and made of polyproplyene. Will keep you posted on the mounts. (Yes we do have a doggie life vest for Martha the dog)

Dave,
There was a thread quite a while ago talking about these. At the time, I opted to go with an inflatable kayak as a canoe replacement. I remain interested in the Porta-Bote though, because my legs liked the canoe better than they like the kayak. Can you share the cost? I'd also be interested in hearing how your mounting process goes. I really don't want to mount it on the side or the roof. The bottom is logical, but like many, I've never pulled the bottom panels. Keep us posted.

Gordon 'n Carol;
We paid $1399 for a 12' boat. This included shipping from California, oars and a bar to help unfold it. A 5HP Nissan motor was $1199. It is avery nice motor! When I am done with the brackets, I will post pictures.
