Campers are a compromise. You won’t something large what are you willing to give you in exchange. There is only so many square feet. I like a smaller camper say 32 feet with 3 slides a decent bath and kitchen a comfortable place to set and a nice bed. But then I’m not a full or long timer like many here. My needs are different than a lot of people here. It’s hard to design a camper for everyone and to be honest I’m feeling a bit left out when I look at Montana campers.

jsb5717 ... I'm with you on beds as well. We are not big people and don't need all that real estate to sleep on. We'd rather have walk around room. Larger people will not agree. Another item is the Thule awning's design ... interesting setup ... wonder how they take windy days?

I agree. I'm not huge, but I'm not small and we have still cut the platform down on both our Monty's to queen size so the bedroom was a room.

Speaking of RV fridges, all I've done is add a couple of door shelves* to our 1210 Norcold. It's amazing how many little containers use up the regular shelves. I might even add an ice maker**.

We have a Samsung fridge in our S&B. I have to say that it was not one of our better choices along with one of their $$ front loader washers that wont wash clothes without an 'illegal' water level mod and then it's marginal

If they built a RV the way we wanted it the thing would be @ 50 feet long and weigh 40 K. We are near full timers. We have the double door Norcold Rv fridge. We adjusted to living in a RV vs the S&B.

I learned a long time ago not to be critical of what you want to be!

I'm not retired yet but I sure want to be!

I'm not part of the 1% but sure want to be!

We didn't have enough storage space either...so we built our own. The coffee station used to be a 1/2 bath.

The 18cuft RV fridge wasn't enough either, so where you see the bananas is a 110 can beverage fridge...now that's bananas!

Our experience. An RV fridge and full timing 6 years do not mix. The summer Florida heat = spoiled food so out goes the Norcold 1210 and in goes the 17 cuft resedentual.

I think sometimes they want to put something out there that looks pretty but isn't practical for use. I'm tall and I can't reach very far back in some of the cabinets.

I don't know about newer RV refrigerators but our 2014 3582RL has a 4 door that is only 12 cubic feet.

Love our residential refrigerator, especially when you find good deals on meat. Nice to have the space to freeze. Being a snowbird last thing I want to do is go shopping every other day.

You can always find something you wish you had in your RV. You can never seem to find the one that has everything exactly like you would want it. Our Montana had very little cabinet space in the kitchen in our 3820FK. Our SOB has tons of cabinet and counter top space, but I wish it had more outside underneath storage areas! For those of you who need more cabinet space, we have installed a couple of different sizes of these pull out racks you can get from Lowe's. They have many different sizes to choose from. See pics

apparently none of you are dedicated ice cream eaters, or you would know what the large freezer is for!!!!

We have the 2018 3820FK, and our son has the 3811MS. Both kitchens work well for us.

The 3820 has a big booth... we have never spent much time in a booth before buying this unit, but everybody seems to congregate in this one. One person can be at the stove area cooking, one at the buffet across the kitchen prepping, and 2 more prepping at the table without anyone getting under foot due to the slide. We have been able to stuff enough food for a week in the fridge for 6 people, and enough in the cabinets to feed everyone without skimping, and the buffet with its three cabinets, is ample enough for all my pots, pans, and crock/instapot. I’m not sure what else I would put in there... but if I needed more storage, I would have my husband fashion some type of under booth storage for really large things.

Our son’s kitchen is part of the rear living room. It has a buffet AND a large pantry. There are three prep areas there - stove, island, buffet,, and more storage space than he knows what to do with in the pantry and buffet.

I’m not sure how much folks are trying to pack into their rvs, am I just not carrying enough???

We bought a Montana HC 330RL last March. It has tons of storage with a large hutch and large island. Our camper fridge is 12 CU ft (we factory ordered to not get a residential). On our recent 3 1/2 month trip, 12 cu ft was plenty. Why freeze a ton of food?

We are not full timers or long timers, we bought our HC 310re to go camping(or so called boon docking). We really like the HC 310re with the exception that they do not put a booth dinette in them. We take our daughter and son-in-law and grandson with us a lot and sure could use the extra bed. I am thinking about pulling out the free standing table and building a booth. We cook and eat outside, that is what we are out there for in the first place, to enjoy the great outdoors. Ours has the 4 door 12cu/ft rv fridge and it is very nice compared to the 8 cu/ft we had before.

Well this thread boils down to two very predictable camps. One side dry camps and likes the RV fridge and the other side if full timers/non dry campers that like the residential. That sounds quite logical to me.

I have zero problem with someone having what they want in an RV. In fact, one of my issues with the industry is they tend to limit options and you see them going from one trend to another (especially on interiors). One trend I would like to see catch on would be allowing more input into what is built. The one thing I did like about New Horizon is they had a wide set of options and allow the new owner to select what they wanted as opposed to forcing them to take what the industry built. Its sort of like the difference between a fast food restaurant and a sit down restaurant.

I will say, I am always impressed by the ingenuity of some of our handy RV owners. Some of you have the greatest ideas for adding storage and convenience to a rig! Hats off to you and many thanks for sharing!!

Either fridge is fine, whatever meets your needs. There are advantages and disadvantages to both, which is true for all RVs.
So in my mind, both have their place. We wanted a camper fridge for flexibility. And, a 12 cu ft campground fridge is a big step up from the usual 8 cu ft. If you travel a lot with a camper, you run into unpredictable situations. With a residential fridge, you probably should have a small generator in case of power issues. RV dealers may not repair residential fridges and you have to find a regular appliance repair shop for that. As I said, nothing wrong, just depends on what works for you.

I bought off the lot, looking back I should have ordered one probably. But we do like our 3811MS. We have had an A & a C class and a toy hauler and like the 5er best. To us the res fridge is perfect and the "king size" bed works for me since I'm 6'5". We do mostly boondocking but plan to be more full timers in a couple years. I say to each his own, it would be a boring world if everyone like the same thing.
