Dometic 12 cu ft fridge

One of the things I have noticed is this fridge in the new Mountaineer seems noisier than the Norcold's we've had in the past. It is on electric right now and every few minutes it makes humming sound like a motor is running.

Is this normal! I have not noticed a fridge make noise like this before.

If it is in a slide it should have fans behind the unit to move air across the evaporator coil. Fans are controlled by a thermistor so they will cycle on and off. Jim

Yep nothing to worry about, I thought the same thing that it is noisier than my old Norcold but was told they are noisier too because they have 1 more cooling fan than the Norcold ,I just got used too it it does it more in the Summer months, but I tell ya it is worth it I like the Dometic better with it's pass thru freezer and it has been reliable too

Absolutely the first thing we noticed with our 2015 but you get used to it like everything else.

We have a 2014 Mountaineer 356 TBF and we have not been able to keep our frig cold when camping. It is going back to the dealer on Monday. Third time and I think it is time for a new one. When we left last Friday for our trip it was 32, loaded the day before, and had been on electric since Tuesday. By late Friday afternoon it had begun to rise. Our temps ranged from 37 to 51. We tried running it on propane then switched back to electric. Yesterday morning prior to leaving the campground it was back down to 37. Today is at 35 on electric but empty. Very frustrating. Love the 4 door frig just want one that works correctly! It is a Dometic.

Mine ranges from 34-44 depending on how hot it is outside and how often we are opening it,it has gotten as high as high 40's in summer when the sun is beating down on the fridge side but it always goes back down,Winter it is set at the 3 setting and Summer 4-5 setting

I think you gents were right! What I was hearing is a fan or two. The outside temp right now is 53 and I've not heard them come on. It has been staying at around 32 and 33 since we set up on Sunday.

Sooner or later, I'll get this thing all figured out. Now, gotta' learn how to use the heating and cooling controls and the Jensen stereo.

Thanks for all the help!

Dale:

Were you aware that these things go in to a defrost/shutdown cycle every 48 hours?

The first trick though is upon the first start up the first defrost cycle occurs after the first 60 hours and then each 48 hours after that. Therefore one should always start their fridge up at around noon to 2 o'clock so the defrost cycles will always occur during the cooler night time hours as the temp will rise somewhat during this cycle.
