Travel with furnace on

We just retired this year and will be traveling from Wis to Florida in January. This will be the first time we have ever traveled in below freezing weather. We were thinking about not filling our water tanks until we got into warmer weather. Or can we fill the tanks when we leave home and keep the furnace running while we travel?

Thanks,
Tom

We do travel with the furnace on in ours. I assume the purpose of carrying water is for flushing?? Even with the furnace on, keep in mind that your low point drain is exposed to the elements and may well freeze. That could and has started the process of icing into the tank itself and also runs the risk of cracking the low point drain tube. I guess it could be insulated to hopefully prevent it from icing, but I don't know how well that would work?? You can carry drinking water in the fridge to keep it from freezing and get a couple of bottles of windshield cleaner to flush with in emergencies. As per the above, our preference has always been to travel with the tanks empty.

We too will be traveling south in January to Gulf Shores. I plan on leaving the pink stuff in till we get to Tenn or northern Alabama depending on Temps. We carry 3 - 4 plastic milk jugs with water for flushing toilet and bottled water in fridge for drinking. Remember moving water won't freeze. I think that along in the afternoon an hour or so from stopping for the night we will turn furnace on to speed up the warming process.
My tanks will be empty while traveling, no use in carrying the extra weight.
