Air pressure question... When do you measure?

If you want 80 psi in the trailer tires do you want this while cold or should they be at 77 psi and after they warm up go up to 80 psi from running them for a while?

Thanks... Gary

Hi Gary, every tire should have air added when the tires are cold.

Tire manufacturers state tire pressure should always be measured when cold. If you ever need to add air when tires are warm or hot; the manufactures say not to exceed the maximum pressure (this means you will need to add more when they cool off, but ensures you do not exceed the rated pressure).

It is normal that the pressure in a properly inflated tire, when cold, will exceed that manufacture rated maximum when the tire is hot; this is normal and is factored in when they determine the maximum cold tire air pressure.

We check ours...COLD...every time before we move our Montana. When your rig is positioned so that the tires will be exposed to the sun, it would be a good idea to check prior to the sun beating on the tires...it does make a difference.
