I love not having to store a vacuum. I was impressed with the quality of the Dometic, and I like the expandable hose.
As Dick describes, it is not really a central vacuum as I would think of one. It is more like a wall mounted vacuum cleaner that exhausts to the inside of the room. I think Dometic would be steps ahead to just design it more like a portable vacuum that can be stored and used in a recessed wall bracket (then Dick wouldn't have to remove the screws
).
You are probably used to the remotely located central vacs in your motorcoaches that exhausted to the outside. Dirt Devil makes these for RVs, and so does Orek. Keystone uses the Dirt Devil in the Everest 5er and now offers the Vac-Pan in the kitchen. I do not know how these perform compared to the Dometic. I believe Ozzie installed the Dirt Devil in his rig recently.
Strange that Dometic is a leader in home central vac systems, and Dirt Devil specializes in the closet or wall mounted portables, yet in the RV industry these companies seem to have switched roles
. Cost versus benefit, I would definately get the vacuum, but if I felt ambitious next time I might actually forego the factory Dometic option and install my own central system after delivery.
