Roof vent opening the wrong way?

Which way should manual roof vents open? We have manual openvent in tne stool room and one over the shower. We have to make sure they are closed before travelling as they open with the slant facing forward and we are afraid the wind will cath them and tear them off. Also I want to install the vent domes over them so we cam leave them open all the time but I think we wont get the proper air circulation. Hope I have explained this properly. The ones in our camper face backward in our camper and we never shut them completly. WE HAVE A 2007 3400.

ALL vent openings on top of the rig should only open to the rear of the coach. This is the only logical way you would want it done. If they are in any other configuration they should be corrected to the proper position asap. Good luck. If I didn't understand what you were talking about I apologize. Sometimes I see things slightly differently than others.......

Let us know what you find out and any corrections needed.

All of ours opens to the rear. I am with HamRad, you should have yours corrected if it opens to the front. It just goes to figure that someday you will forget to close one of them and the wind from driving down the road will do damage.

I would say a newbie at the factory got a little disoriented on the roof .

Hinge side front is the standard.

Our manual vents face toward the rear of the camper. They faced toward the rear on our previous camper and the one before that. I will refrain from any "old world craftsmen " or "quality control" comments.

I agree warranty should correct this situation. I have never seen vents opening towards the front and sure wouldn't accept ours being that way. Ours is the same year and model as yours.

This would be a new one on me. Since Rich won't say it I will, The Old World Craftsman's horse never goes fast enough for the vent opening backwards to be a problem. Actually, at horse drawn carrige speeds the vent opening backwards would be a plus. It would move more air through the coach. But since you're probably going to pull it with a truck instead, I'd take it back and let the dealer turn them around.

Backwards for sure. Was this a new unit. I can't believe it could leave the factory this way and if it did, how the dealer could not have noticed and fixed before delivery is surprising. If the unit is used, the previous owner could have turned the around. I know where my in seasonal camped in the past on the shore, some of the seasonal campers would turn them around due to the constant wind off the water. As you noted this is an 07, I would guess it is new, which means the factory make a really dumb mistake and the dealer must have had it's eyes closed when prepping for delivery.

In any case, a good idea to fix as other noted.

Justbeginning, you need to take picts of that one... I also have a 2007 3400 - all vents open to the rear. Trying to imagine how that happened at the factory. Did you say BOTH vents open facing forward???

Take pictures, send in to Keystone so they can post them in the break room in all their plants. It may help cut down on some of these Old World Craftsman boo boos. Might want to send copies to the dealership you did your PDI at for their break room so their technicians can have their sense of awareness sharpened just a bit also...

Let's see - if the Old World Craftsman always put his ladder in the left side (vent openings always to his right), then for some reason he put the ladder on the right side (someone in his way) - yep that would do it !!

Where are those QA guys when you need them ??

I'm not sure any dealer opens the vents during a PDI. It's probably one thing they should do, if they don't. I sure don't know how this got out of Goshen.

Does the bottom of the slant face forward or does the top of the slant face forward.

Bottom will face forward, so when you are traveling wind will not catch it.SeeYa

Yes, the hinge is on the forward edge.

Orv, I will bet you are right on the PDI/vent inspection. Don't remember seeing that item listed on any posted PDI forms. Might be a good one to add.

NOTE: Also need to add to PDI forms inspection/testing of alarms (smoke/CO2/propane). I missed my smoke alarm on my PDI and a week later we had smoke inside our new Montana. Smoke alarm did NOT go off like it should have. Upon inspection, I discovered the battery still in the reversed position (standard procedure for storage and shipping from the alarm mfr). My fault as much as the PDI tech for not checking that at the dealership, but it was not on my sheet...

This forum is invaluable for updating PDI inspections for our members. Finding out about unusual items like an accidentally reversed vent is not something someone would normally think about to check...

OR, If you happen to see a Canadian Montana going backwards down the Alcan highway, we may be able to solve this perplexing problem with a simple remedy???????
