I wonder who is building this motor. Rumor is that Ford may soon be using Cummins motors. Seeing as how Ford owns Cummins it makes sense??

Actually Ford does not own Cummins..That is like a urban legend. I always thought that also but some internet homework will reveal that it is not true.

Rich-
I hope I did not miss something with the specs you posted. I have more with my 7.3L PSD than you show above. If these are so, I might have to consider a Duramax for my next diesel.

Charlie,
I agree. These numbers are not competetive for a modern 6 liter engine. I calculate that 440 ft pounds at 1800 rpm says they are getting about 150 horsepower at 1800 RPM. Given the roll off in torque as RPM increases, the 200 HP at 2700 RPM sounds about right but way soft for this large of an engine. Maybe it isn't turbo charged.

Yes, the specs shown would be for a smaller vehicle? Except the 6.4L confuses the issue.
My 2005 6.0L has 325hp and 570 ft/lbs of torque.
Rumors abound on many of the truck forums. I presume at some point a new engine will come along, but there will be changes for all the manufacturers every year .....

Got this from.... www.flatratetech.com under the topic replacement for the 6.0L
This is a forum of Automotive tech's not just Ford..the spec's came from a tech who CLAIMs to have been to school on the new motor. I agree on the low spec's//check out the forum ands see what you think..I am no diesel expert..

The specs except for 6.4L are about right for the V-6 that Ford and International use in their class 6. For 2007 everything will change because of EPA.

Those numbers do sound awfully low unless that diesel is intended to supplement the existing engine (modified for epa??). At one time Ford was talking about building a diesel for use in autos and the smaller vehicles, like maybe the F150. Could this be what this is all about?

Steve....you guessed correctly. I took the Expedition into the local Ford dealer today to have oil changed and talked to a friend of mine that is a salesman there. He said that they have not received any concrete information from Ford, but talk has been going on for the last two years of producing a F-150 with a six cylinder diesel in '07. Specs that Rich stated above fit an F-150.

Unless they change their mind the Intl. V-6, I think it's called a VT275 will not be in any light duty consumer vehicles, they turned it down. International which builds Ford trucks is building a class 6 for both Ford and International to compete with the Izusu NPR which is about like a super duty with a 15' van body for freight. Trucks are rated class 6,7 & 8 by gvw, class 8 are the big semi tractors etc.

Now that's a new one; Which Ford truck does IH build? I know they make the Power(less)Stroke engines but no trucks other than Navistar. If you're looking at what used to be called "Louisville Fords", they are now called Sterling and are made by Freightliner (Mercedes.)

International makes the Ford medium duty in Mexico, I think it is from the 500 up Freightliner/Sterling got the 9000 and some 8000 heavy duty.
The 450 and I think the 350 are made in Mexico too as is the Dodge.

I e-mailed cummings customer assistance and asked if Ford owned The cummings co. and their reply was No, Ford does not own any part of Cummings Inc.

Why did you need to add the goodies? Did your diesel not have enough power as it came?

I NEVER GET PASSED PULLING A HILL AND IT NEVER PULLS DOWN FROM OVER-DRIVE, THERE AINT TO MANY RIGS OUT THERE THAT CAN DO THAT. AS FOR THE WARANTY, FRIENDS WHO WORK FOR CHEVY HELPS ALOT, HAVE NOT BROKE ANYTHING IN 30,000 MILES SO IT IS PRETTY SAFE !

Sounds like you have a lot of fun with your TV.. However for me to spend $3,000.00 so that I never get passed on a hill would not be a good cost vs benefits deal for me..Geting up and over the hill is ok for me....However..to each their own.Good towing...
