Answer to 3670RL question

In my last post on the subject I mentioned the two problems I had with our new 3670RL, the Quest 2000(solved by replacing with a Koss unit) and the assist handle rubbing on the slide trim. Since several people mentioned the same problem, here is what's happening. The unit is in to the dealer for the repair. The dealer contacted Keystone and Keystone's request to the dealer and me is to replace the handle with a Stainless steel handle(no paint to rub off) and they will replace the metal trim with a plastic trim that won't show the rub. I guess we'll have to see how it come out.

Glad you got resolution. Keep us posted on the rest. Maybe my 2003 doesn't have the "handle", but I am unclear exactly what is being addressed here. Are we talking about the handle beside the door to assist entry?

That's correct, this is the large handle the folds to the left when stowed.

Ishler, when you get it back from the dealer would you report on that plastic trim? I'm curious whether the plastic trim is an overlay or a straight replacement. Reason I ask is we also have had this problem. Ours came with and still has the stainless grab bar but it rubbed on the edge of the slide when going down the road. It rubbed a little of the finish off the point of impact on the slide. Our dealer's solution was to put a rubber bumper over the rubbed off part of the slide, then cut it on an angle so the handle closes far enough to latch into place. It's not very pretty. So I'm interested in how yours turns out. Thanks.

Steve, I wonder if the handle can be removed and a couple of shims or spacers put in to move the handle 1/4" or so away from the side of the trailer. Some hard plastic or stainless shims could be easily made to fit.

That was my suggestion to the dealer, but he said Keystone preferred this solution. I'll post picture when it comes home.

I also suggested that to our dealer but he said it would have to come out too far and would cause too much stress on the connection to the Montana. Ours would probably have to come out 1/2 to 3/4 inch.

Just went outside to look at it. I don't see where shimming it would create much problem. It's a pretty good-sized base on each point of connection. Come warmer weather I'll take a closer look. Thanks, John. This is really something the designers should have discovered before these ever got out to the public.

We had the same problem with the handle rubbing the slide (if you forgot to pull the handle out first...which we did). It has been resolved with a clear plastic door edge about 3 inches long.

Ok I just brought her home yesterday. They used a plastic corner bracket at the point of contact with the handle. The bracket is the piece they use at the intersection of the slide exterior trim. It matches the contour of the trim perfectly. As soon as it stops snowing here I'll get a picture and post it.

Bill and Ann, that sounds workable, too. Ours rubbed going down the road and rubbed the finish off to bear metal or whatever is under there. So it would have to be refinished before putting a clear door edge over it although I do like the idea. The dealer's solution covered up the wear spot so if I come up with a different solution I still have to take care of the bad spot.
