Interesting Article on Rim Ratings - MUST READ
A little Chinese bashing but it is worthwhile reading:

New to the blog.RV Net but not to RVNet itself. I read the article completely and no where in it does it mention whether or not the trailer was overloaded. My question concerns this statement- Chinese manufacturer ratings don’t necessarily mean much when the wheel is loaded to its maximum. Was it loaded to it's maximum? Yes the tire may have been inflated to it's maximum 110 PSI BUT was the entire wheel and tire assembly loaded to it's maximum or was the trailer actually overloaded and therefore overloading the entire assembly??
I also read up on Robert Henderson's background and he does appear to have the knowledge but I do find fault with his not furnishing all of the pertinent information.
As I have said many times before, "I am very leery and have little faith about anything that comes via RVNET." and this is no exception.
Take from it what you want but be a bit leery from where it comes.

Hmmm, I always wondered about the "re-certification" of the wheels on the Montanas. If a rim design will tolerate 110 PSI, why not rate it at that when manufactured, not just when you need it to support more weight. Smells fishy to me.

I think the underlying question has to be whether the Tredit rims are manufactured in China and how are they certified or re-certified. (I don't know myself). What it leads me to be concerned about is no different than the Mission tires. If one rim or several pass some type of certification, does that mean that I am confident enough in the Chinese manufacturing process to accept that all of the rims are okay?? Personally, based on my Mission tire experience, now I have another aspect of the rig that I have to worry about and decide whether to trust or replace??? Anybody with knowledge of the rims (Tredit) can chip in at anytime and reassure me and others.

Bingo, I was at the Tredit Wheel company in Elkhart, IN while at last years fall rally. I was told that these rims, the TR6, are NOT manufactured by Tredit, simply imported by them. At the time I didn't know enough to ask the question: "Where from?" I wanted to get the true "skinny" on the recertification of the '07 Keystone wheels versus my '06 wheels. Even though they are probably the same wheels, Keystone did not ask Tredit to recertify the '06 wheels, hence, my search for an upgraded wheel. The report by the gentleman on RVnet is enlightening. I am inclined to go with the Alcoa Aluminum and the Goodyear G614 tires. Wow, 5 new rims and 5 new tires, Maybe I should call AIG or Bank of America and ask for some stimulus $$$$$$$$$......
ON Edit: Check out www.tredittire.com

Phil,
Better call Washington for your stimulus. AIG and BOA only receive stimulus. No signs that they are passing it on.

Agree...same for the wheel weight rating and for the axle rating. They come out with a rating, Keystone wants more capacity...presto, new, increased rating. Doesn't make sense.

Ok, Ok..I can't stand it any longer.. I have got to say it.... Why in the world are we so interested in rim, ratings, tire ratings, axle ratings. Why do want to make sure we are within the ratings and spec's when a large number of us do not give a hoot about the ratings and spec's of the truck. Are these not just suggestions ????.. has any one been pulled over for exceeding tire ratings, rim ratings, axle ratings.Where are the rim police, tire police, axle police. Why should DOT ratings mean anything when the truck ratings mean nothing???? We don't need no stinking ratings and spec,s on anything.. It pulls fine.

Golly Rich, chill a little!!!!! LOL I think folks are really concerned about overloading their tires and wheels. We all know we can overload our trailers and trucks, after all, someone says that 80% of us tow overweight anyway, so that must work, as I don't see a lot of trailers broken down on the side of the road, BUT, no one wants a blow out at 85mph. Do we??

I think when Lippert came out with the 7k axles, someone, maybe Keystone, had a bunch of wheels laying around and needed them upgraded to fit the axles and increased GVW's. That's what prompted Keystone to have them recertified. Of course, this is my opinion only...........right Rich??????
