What route would you take from FL to Ok

Just curious what route you would take if you were pulling your rig from FL to Ok? Broken Bow, Ok is the final destination. Not a tourist trip, but a straight through pull.

Thank you for any input.

You might look at:
10 to Mobile, although I've heard there's a bridge or something out somewhere on 10.
45 to Meridan MS, good 2 lane, been there.
20 to Shreveport, 4 lane, some good, some not so good, been there.
71 to Texarkana, 2 lane, good on the part we've been on.
82 to just past DeKalb, TX, 2 lane, ok from what I remember.
259 to Idabel, OK, probably 2 lane, never been on it
and on to Broken Bow.

Or 10 and 12 all the way to 49 then to Shreveport.

I did a similar trip last August, but after entering Texas, stayed a bit South on I-20 the rest of the way through Texas.

Depending on where you start out in Fl, work your way up to I-10 westbound across the Panhandle to Mobile. From there go NW on US 98 to join I-59 (N), a few miles on that road, then NW again on US 40 to Jackson, MS. You pick up I-20 (W) there. We spent a couple of nights just west of Jackson, near Clinton, MS, at Springdale RV Park. Fine for an overnight or two.

I-20 to Shreveport, LA, then on into Texas for just a few miles. In In Texas on I-20, exit 599 will take you north on Hwy 281 around Longview to Hwy 259 which goes north all the way to Broken Bow.

The route north to Broken Bow after leaving I-20 in Texas shows to be 124 miles, but, as I recall, that part of Texas/Ok is pretty flat and roads good.

My map program wanted to go from Shreveport NW up through Arkansas....been there, roads aren't that good, and terrain is more hilly, so I think the very slightly longer run into Texas would be better and faster, in the overview.

Starting at Cocoa Beach on the Atlantic side, the map summary shows 1154 miles, 23 hrs driving time (at our towing speeds) For us, that is 4 days of 6 hrs driving (plus, of course, potty/fuel/dog-walk/meal stops). Leave at 9, quit at 5. Of course, you can also do 3 days of 8 hr driving + stops (Leave at 8, quit at 6), or, if you are a real glutton for punishment, 2 X 14 hour days (12 driving, 2 for misc stops). (Leave at 6, quit at 8?...not this kid!!)

Hope that all makes sense to you...pretty easy haul, as far as roads go. No way would I go west of Mobile on I-10. The roads NW to Jackson, MS, are good roads, divided hwy on several stretches.

Best,

This is a trip I make regularly. Most of what others have said is correct, but here is my precise route: I-10 to Mobile (Check about that bridge, I am not aware of that) US 98 to Hattisburg, MS; US49 to Jackson, MS; I-20 to Longview (actually I turn at Marshall and take Texas 154 to Diana where I pick up US 259, but Longview may be better for someone not familiar with the local roads.) If you come to Longview it is LOOP 281 around to US 259. 259 is an excellent highway for most of the way to Broken Bow.

If you take US 259 you will pass within a block or two of our home (20 miles north of Longview). Give us a call. Send me a PM or email if you are interested. I will give you contact information.

An alternative as another has said is to take I-10/ I-12 to Lafayette, LA then I-49 to Shreveport where you would take I-20 as above. I-49 is a new, excellent freeway all the way.

The bridge that they are talking about is the one across Escambia Bay that was destroyed by a hurricane two years ago just east of Pensacola, Fl. on I-10. I was through there about six weeks ago and they are working on the bridge. Traffic is allowed one lane each direction and it slows down as there is quite a bit of congestion and sometimes delays, but they are allowing it to pass on the bridge. We came through with a minimum of delay.

Look at this route for the fastest, best roads, less traffic,

I-10 to Slidell, La
I-12 to Baton Rogue, la
I-49 to Shreveport La,
I-20 to Lindale, Tx
highway 69 north to u.s. 82 west
take whatever highway you wish to go to broken bow.
Once you enter I-10, there is not one stop until you get to Lindale, Tx. except for fuel and rest. 69 is two and four lane and has some small town stops and local traffic. Nothing strange or hard. u.s. 82 is mostly four lane except for a couple of 2 lane areas. Traffic is very light and it is a great road.

Lindale is too far WEST. Broken Bow is directly NORTH of Longview on US 259. US 82 is a great highway. I take it on the way to Colorado, but you would certainly NOT want to take it west from Sherman. You're already way out of the way West at that point

US 259 is a fine highway except for one small stretch just south of Broken Bow (near Idabel, and that is no problem). So Longview is the correct exit from I-10 (IMO -- and I live here.)

BJ, lots depends on whether you want the fastest (Interstates) or the most (to us) enjoyable and more relaxing, which means the US highways. I personally would take Padre's route because it sounds much more enjoyable with much more Americana to be seen. But that's what we like. We do interstates when our goal is to get from A to B as quickly as possible.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!
