what fordzilla said motorhomes and RV trailers are exempt but flat beds and such are not that has been the law in Iowa and federal and them laws have not changed. But the day is coming especially since trailers and motor homes have got so big and heavy. Won't be long.

The fees on my 03 2955RL was $316 and my 97 pickup k2500 was $287 in California. When Gov.Davis was in office they were going to be $1100.Then the governator got in office.
A few years back I got a PTI plate for my small 2 wheel trailer and it was $20 for 5 years.Even the semi-trailers can get them, but you can't get one for a TT or 5er.

Here in Wisconsin the 5th wheel is only $15.00 a year.
My Dodge 2500 is registered at 8000 max. It is $77.50 a year.
Big Red is $236.00 a year based on 16,000 lbs.
I was told by the DMV that I only needed to register the vehicles at the weight they would be carrying. The trailer weight did not count as it is registered seperate.

kathi, what did you find out when you registered in Montana? I have to do it soon and I don't really want any surprises. Better to do my yelling and screaming here at home and get it out of my system!

Thanks for the replies about SD. Sounds like ours won't change.
