Toilet waste ball blade seal

I have a 2019 with an Aqua-Magic toilet. The waste ball / blade seal parts no longer seal and the toilet drains immediately and also leaks tank gas into the bathroom.

I may have damaged the seal??? not sure. I accidently let the black tank get pressurized when doing a tank flush and let the water run too long with the gate valve closed.

Before I start tearing it apart does anyone know if this is an easy repair and are parts available?

Now would be the perfect time to replace it with a Dometic 320.

I agree with post #2. No comparison between the Dometic toilets and the Thetfords. I pulled the Aqua Magic out of this trailer, brand new, as soon as I got it to my house. I put in a Dometic 310 because that's what DW wants. The 320 is elongated. The 310 has a rimless bowl whereas the 320 has a rim and they each have a different flush system - either one is much better than the Thetford. Note: the spacing for the units is different as well. I think (memory) the Thetford is 8" (?) from the wall while the 310 is 10" and the 320 is 11".

Once you've replaced the seal, maybe more than once and/or had the toilet fill it'self and flood the rig or the flush mechanism explode you will go to a Dometic. These are not unusual experiences (look up past posts). Those of us on the forum have gone from explaining how to fix them to just saying forget it and buy a Dometic. Tetford even replaced the toilet on our 2010 under warranty and it then crapped out. The dealer didn't even look at me funny when we told them we wouldn't take the 2017 unless then put a Dometic in it.

I tried a couple of times to repair our Thetford after the pedal flew off late one night. Was able to get a replacement pedal and got it installed, but less than 6 months later, things weren't working right, and even after buying parts, ended up junking it all and installed a Dometic 310, and that was 7 years ago and haven't had any issues with the 310 since then.

Ours has done that since we got the rig new. I have used plumber's grease to lubricate the seal by hand (use gloves). I have also used Thetford toilet seal and lubricant. I put it in the toilet at night and let it sit overnight. It worked well enough, but since we don't full time, the seal tends to dry out in storage. Here's what I used...

I have heard of using olive oil and other things, but just don't use anything petroleum based. It will break down the seals even worse over time.

Thanks for all the good comments.. I was able to repair the valve. Really flimsy. I'll consider the advice to get the Dometic.

In most cases the problem of an rv toilet not holding water is because there has been gunk gotten caught between the gasket and the blade or the gasket and the main body of the toilet. I started to have that problem and I took an old toothbrush and opened the blade or flopper and while running water down I rant the toothbrush around the gasket with the bristles both on top and under the gasket. I then took and lubed the gasket with plumbers grease. It sealed well and held water. I do this about once a month and have had no problems since. Just make sure you have a good strong hold on that toothbrush when doing it's job on the toilet. You DO NOT want to drop that toothbrush down the toilet!

Does the different spacing affect placement? I broke whatever holds the small flush pedal just before I closed the camper and I'm told I will need to do the flap/flush se as well. TY in advance.

If you're going to use a toothbrush I suggest you drill a small hole in the handle and tie a sturdy string to it. Imagine what that brush would if it got stuck in your black tank.

Mine leaked from brand new and the dealer would not replace under warranty as they "could not duplicate the problem". I tried the plumbers grease which usually worked for a few days. I had taken apart the toilet several times to adjust the placement of the seal but this did not fix the issue either. I finally figured out if I pull up on the pedal after each flush it holds the water fine, even for a month. Not sure if a stiffer return spring on the pedal would work.

I had the same problem and it turned out to be nothing more than the pivot point had popped out. The seal is held in place by two plastic tabs that pop into a recessed hole in the sides of the down pipe. Vigorous brushing had popped one out even though it looked like and behaved as if it was in place. A gloved hand was able to fix it by popping it back into the slot where it needed to be. It was that simple
