CounterTops
Hi all, need some help with my countertops in a 2005 3400RL. We purchased this used this winter so not much documentation on it. In the brochure it says the counters are resin impregnated granite composite. What is that? Does it need to be treated/sealed like granite? And was the counter originally shiny or matte finish? Thanks in advance for your replies!

As I recall our 2005 had Corian. They can be sanded to remove scratches and polished. I would say the finish was between shiny and matte.

I would not sand anything until u know what it is. Our 2005 Montana had what looked liked Corian but it was not. It was a thinner look like corian counter top that was not a solid surface. Our 2009 has Corian and there is definitely a big difference.

Some of my Montanas had the Corian brand countertops. They are usually solid surface molds of acrylic resin mixed with mineral fillers. They can be had with either a matte finish or with smooth shiny surfaces. Although nice looking initially, they don't seem to be the same caliber as Corian countertops in stick houses. Ours scratched easily just by sliding a pan across them. At first I kept them polished up, but decided it was a losing cause. Ours came with the matte finish, but when you start polishing out the scratches ... they become shiny.

I have a 2005 Montana and the countertops are not Corian. They are Granite impregnated resin composite. If you feel under the edges they feel like molded fiberglass. The surface finish is flat/matte not shiny. They where/are very durable but I do remember some issues with the molded in sinks cracking. If not careful the sinks will stain but can be cleaned with soft scrub. While it is not very easy to do, the countertops can be scratched and buy the most inconceivable things like a 1 gallon plastic milk jug that has a jagged bottom. Just ask me, I didn't have the Monty 2 weeks back in 2004 and the first thing I did was to scratch the countertop by sliding a milk jug across it. The scratch is still there just as a reminder of me being a "DA". Haven't had any issues since. There is a method to remove scratches from the surface, I will have to find the owners manual, if interested I will look it up for you. I normally maintain the countertops with spray 409 and the sinks with spray 409 for normal cleaning and soft scrub to remove stains. Once a year I wipe them down with Pledge. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your help, at first I was impressed with the beautiful counters. After closer inspection and research I see they are fake granite and not solid all the way through...just very thin. The sink covers are heavy as heck but that is it. Sad, but bought some polish spray at the grocery store for granite, and buffed out some small scratches with very fine wet sand paper. They are still matte finish but a bit shinier from the polish. #128533;
