My previous rig was a 2001 Silverado 3500, and I had the Reese 16k fifth wheel hitch in the bed of my truck. I had 1 locking pin no bed cover and left the hitch in all the time. In 2009 I sold the 5er so I didn't need the hitch so I took it out and its still in my garage for 10+ years. Just sold my old truck and purchased the 2023 SRW.

In short, I can relate!

For head locking pins - I just drilled the hole a little larger and used two small Master keyed alike pad locks. Not fully thief proof but would slow them down enough to go elsewhere or remove temptation for vandals to remove those pins while you are parked at a local Love's, etc. FWIW, you can also find much better pins at places like Tractor Supply. To hold the base in place, I used two 5/16" bolts and Nyloc nuts instead of the puny B&W supplied lynch pins. I also tightened the 4 base nuts with a 13/16 wrench before installing the safety pins also from Tractor Supply (instead of cotter pins)

Just received my supposedly 1/2" x 9.5" locking pin. No where near 9.5" not even 8" end to end. Dang!

Back to grade 8 bolt and nylon nut.

Turns out that the saddle hitch hole is smaller than 1/2", it's closer to 3/8", you know, the typical hitch pin size....

This is what I ended up doing. Thanks All!
