Dedicated Fishermen
It's been cold enough the past couple of weeks for most lakes in our area to freeze some, but not very thick. The past few days have been warm enough to melt most of the ice save some pockets in the coves. We drove out to a local lake just to pass the afternoon yesterday. While driving around the lake, we stopped at one of the boat ramps just to gander out across the water. Right at the boat ramp was water, but out past that for about 100' was a thin layer of ice till you got to open water again. Some ole boy in a fishing boat had cleared a narrow channel from the boat ramp out to open water so he could snag a "big one". Now that's dedication!

I've done it a few times. Ice out is generally pretty good fishing. Paid off for this guy in late January on the Osage River. Headline from this mornings KC paper, Angler’s big fish with odd name may be a world-record catch, Missouri officials say

He might have a new boat and had to justify it to his wife. Hay that sounds like a lot of people who buy a new camper.

Our company installed a control system in Marquette, MI in mid winter. Couple of our field service guys were there for the install and saw some guys out on Lake Superior ice fishing. Being Texas boys and never seen such a thing they decided to walk out there and check it out. Getting nearer they noticed those guys had a small boat with them. After talking to them a few minutes they asked why a boat out on the ice. They said sometimes the ice would unexpectedly start to break up, and so the boat. Our guys decided they had seen enough and quickly headed back to solid ground.

Yup - can't deny it one bit....
Definitely sounds like something one of us Texas boys would do - or in your case a couple of us! LOL

Seriously now. I have a friend in Wyoming. We were talking last week and he said they couldn’t ice fish on Ocean Lake this year. The ice had stress crakes in it that allowed water to cover the ice. The water would be 8 to 10 inches or more deep then it would freeze over. When you walked on it the top would break and you would be in the water up to your knees. Burr.
I’m not a Texan but I an a southern boy and know nothing about ice fishing. Ain’t I lucky.
