Central Vac

We are in the process of choosing our first Montana and would like to have central vac. We just retired from the motorcoach tour business we operated for 18 years, and we had central vac in our motorcoaches. We loved it! For those of you who have it in your Montana, how do you like it? For those of you who may have had it at one time, but opted not to get it again, what did you not like about it? Thank you for your input.

We like it. It is convenient to use and we solved the storage of the hose etc. by putting them in the open area under the frig. I think the new models have a cupboard there. We took off the panel and added spring hinges. Works well. We also use the beater bar attachment.

We really like ours and we store the hose on top of the W/D combo, have other things under the frig. I don't think I could find a place for a portable vac. The hose will reach all the corners of our rig and if you wanted to you could take out the 4 screws and move it outside to do the truck. It just plugs in.

We love ours. We do have a small beater bar (air powered). We store all the attachments and extra bags in a large plastic tub under the sink.

I love not having to store a vacuum. I was impressed with the quality of the Dometic, and I like the expandable hose.

As Dick describes, it is not really a central vacuum as I would think of one. It is more like a wall mounted vacuum cleaner that exhausts to the inside of the room. I think Dometic would be steps ahead to just design it more like a portable vacuum that can be stored and used in a recessed wall bracket (then Dick wouldn't have to remove the screws ).

You are probably used to the remotely located central vacs in your motorcoaches that exhausted to the outside. Dirt Devil makes these for RVs, and so does Orek. Keystone uses the Dirt Devil in the Everest 5er and now offers the Vac-Pan in the kitchen. I do not know how these perform compared to the Dometic. I believe Ozzie installed the Dirt Devil in his rig recently.

Strange that Dometic is a leader in home central vac systems, and Dirt Devil specializes in the closet or wall mounted portables, yet in the RV industry these companies seem to have switched roles . Cost versus benefit, I would definately get the vacuum, but if I felt ambitious next time I might actually forego the factory Dometic option and install my own central system after delivery.

We like ours as well and now would not buy without having the system. Sure beats carrying around a stand alone model. We purchased an air driven powerhead that does a great job on the carpets. Can't remember hearing of anyone being unhappy with the Dometic unit.

I should have added that we have a dust buster that we use for small pickups so we don't have to get the big system out. We mounted it on the island next to the electrical outlet.
Happy trails.................

I will not vary off the kudos of the other MOCers. We have been living fulltime in our 3400 for 18 months and ten days. As fulltimers, our vac get heavy use - more than what the average RVer would use it.

The Dometic central vac is extremely high quality and never skips a beat. Very strong suction. We also have the air driven beater bar and my wife loves it. She says the whole system works great. I'll take her word for that...

Ditto to what Dave said above, except we don't full time, just lengthy long time.

When we ordered our 3280, I'm not even sure Montana offered the vac system then. I installed the Dirt Devil a couple years ago and we will not be without one again. I think it is easier to find storage for the hose and tools than using up space for the upright. Oh, yeah, did I mention that I can clean out the truck with the same hose, great!
