Stolen Monty keys

Some punks stole my car last week and in it was a set of keys for my 2014 Monty. I'm not worried about them having access but I would like a second set. Do I have to go to dealer for front door key and storage doors or can a locksmith retailer make them

Two weeks ago I could not open my door and after trying & trying I finally was able to break off the key in the lock!!!! Locksmith came out and fished out the broken off key and made 2 new ones. I think he got a # off the key or lock assembly. Anyway he did it without using my wife's key as a pattern. He also got a bunch of goop out of the lock using WD-40. He said he has seen cases where kids(?) would put glue into lock as a prank. I will take it apart and give it a good cleaning before next trip, or replace it.

I think if you have standard keys you can get one made, if you have the electronic locks the blanks used to have to come from the factory.

I just have what the dealer gave me. Hopefully Home Depot can make them or a locksmith store

Ace Hardware is a very good place for keys. They made new door keys for me using blanks they already had.

The local big box stores didn't have the blanks, but the locksmith did. It's always great to have spares. JT.

Last year I began to suspect there were only a few standard keys that fit all RV's. My buddy had about a 3 year old SOB toy hauler and wanted me to check on something inside for him because he was going to be gone. Prior to him giving me one of his keys we tried my Montana key and it worked perfect on both of his exterior doors. He then tried his key and it locked and unlocked my exterior doors.

My point is, in a real emergency if locked out, it could be worthwhile to just try a couple other RV keys because chances are one of them will work.

We had a 3 year old child locked in a Sportmen's Travel trailer this weekend. Everyone came running with their trailer keys.
The door key from our 2011 Montana opened it without any problem.

Got mine at local locksmith. Home Depot, Lowes, True Value Hardware did not have the blanks.

DW somehow managed to lock the keys inside the Monte several years ago. Apparently she unlocked the door with the key, opened the door, turned the key back to the lock position, removed the key, went inside without closing the door, came back out without the key, and closed the door behind. LOCKED. Fortunately the basement door was unlocked. Climbed in the basement, up thru the laundry chute, and opened the door. Now I've got 3 sets in the truck and another in DW's Expedition. Never more than one set goes inside the Monte.

Reading the thread it doesn't surprise me that most manufacturers are using the same suppliers with very little variation in keys. That said, I had an extra set made today on all your advice. The guy at Ace hunted and hunted for the correct blanks with no success. Went 1/2 mile down the street to a locksmith and was in and out in less than 3 minutes with the new keys.

I frequently go fishing with my brother and friends at lakes far away from home in Texas. My nephew also comes on some trips. They bring the boat and I bring the Monty. I had about 6 sets of keys made at CW about 3 weeks after buying my Monty. I also had 6 truck keys made and constructed 6 whole sets of keys attached to a floating key fob. Each set contains a key to the Monty, the truck, the storage areas (751 key), the truck tool box and the king pin lock. Whenever I go camping with my friends, they each get a set. My wife has a set, and there is a set left at home. If I lose my keys while fishing, my fellow campers each have a set. I collect the keys at the end of the trip. Of course, these are all very trusted relatives or close friends. Each of them is free to use the truck for grocery store or bait runs. I always carry two sets of keys with me, just in case I lock a set in the truck while filling up at a fuel station.
