Slide out toppers

Did you get them from a dealer & have them put em on?
So far I haven't had very good luck. Ordered 3 of them first one was the wrong color & size next one damage & sent back. One came to day it had been run over & flattened.

It was part of the deal on the new unit - dealer installed. On the first unit - dealer installed.

So, what is the real story on your location? The internet seems to think you're pulling my leg.

Why would the internet lie like that? Never heard of Frostbite Falls?

But the reality is that the fictional town of Frostbite Falls comes from the classical cartoon program "Rocky and his Friends" which was set in a place that looked a lot like International Falls, Minnesota, known to locals as "The Icebox of the Nation"
Located right on the Canadian border, it is at the end of the road to nowhere, Highway 53. In addition to Rocky and Bullwinkle the Moose, it was the real home of football great Bronko Nagurski and televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker Messner.

We hope to get up that way someday in our travels. We did UP two years in a row. Doing a big western loop this year and then up for the rally.

What are your favorite spots to camp around there?

I don't have slider toppers but if I were to get them, you can bet your bottom dollar a dealer would install them. I absolutely refuse to drill into my coach, especially with the hardware for installing them.

I've only camped at Big Falls, just to bring the grand kids with. Lots of bug a certain times of the year, but the plus side is they got a million $ grant & they're using it. https://bigfalls.govoffice.com/index...5&Type=B_BASIC

This one on the lake is only a couple years old. Never tried it yet. https://rainylakerv.com/

Usually go out of town, wife like the Billings KOA the best.

I have done both ways, dealer install and installed myself. Recommend you find a different vendor.

Our dealer quoted a price to install them that was beyond stupid (~$3000) so I spent about $1200 and did it myself in not that many hours - probably 12. Maybe 6 being the first and a couple of those resetting one of the roller springs. A neighbor helped with 3 of them and the 4th, myself.

The hardest part doing the installation was the supplied self drilling screws that would barely go through the filon outer skin plus Dometic didn't supply enough. I ended up with more - and better - screws (Amazon) and pre drilling.

Good Luck

We arrived a few days early at the Goshen Rally and had Tiara RV install ours, good price and excellent work installing them over 2 years ago. Best investment we made keeping those slides clean, and water out when closing up in the rain when we were traveling.

I had them install after we bought our last travel trailer and regretted it. I presume they were installed correctly, but the flapping from the wind drove us nuts, so we did not purchase them when we ordered our new Montana.

Well maybe it's a good thing that one was wrong & the other 2 were all beat up, & sent back.

Ordered them with the trailer. Have never had any flapping, they are good and tight. I wouldn't be without them, keeps the slide top clean and no sun damage on it, less maintenance.

Sounds a lot like our luck. First one was wrong size and color, second one looked like it had been thru WW3, third one came and while the packaging was beat up the awning and parts were okay. The installation was straightforward but it did require 3 people, it was a 16 footer. Yes occasionally the wind will cause some flapping.....if the wind is coming from the perfect direction, the benefits outweigh the negatives. Here in Florida sometimes it would rain hard enough to push water past the seals, it stopped that completely and it seems to keep it a bit cooler when the sun is beating down. We have 2 more slides to do, these will be easier since the track on the body side is already there from the factory and the last 2 are a little smaller. We just need to find a better way to get them here.

Slide Topper

I ordered a set of 4 Solera Sildeout Toppers online and put them on in about 4 hrs. With the help of two friends and a set of scaffolding and a ladder installation was fairly easy. First watched a couple of YouTube videos of folks showing their techniques and then just installed. The help of friends helped with sliding the topper material into the rail on the fifth wheel really made it easy. Extremely pleased with them!

I have mine on order. As I age and am battling some health issues, I can not climb up to clean the slides before retracting. This will keep them clean. The positive benefit out weighs the negatives, at least for me.
