V Bed Tool Box
I was thinking about installing a "V" tailgate on my F350 even though I found them a little pricey. Visited a local truck supplier today and he showed me a V shaped in-bed tool box that mounts at the back of the truck bed after removing the factory tailgate. Has anyone purchased one of these? The price was slightly more than the replacement tailgate.
05/30: factory tailgate removed and new box installed. It is a Unique Brand. The top of the lids are 4.5 inches below my bed rail. I am sure my pin box can't even come close to hitting it.

Here is the one I was considering, but had to stop and punt when I figured out it would not hold my pancake compressor:

Back in the day when I towed for a living I considered this, until I realized it would be in the way of a gooseneck. So don't use a gooseneck? Fine. The other problem I found was like what Bingo states that a V-shape boxes tended to have several small areas of storage and most of that I wanted to store in those areas were too large for the compartments.
I was very close to purchasing a shorter in height rectangular shaped tool box much in the shape of the large tool box at the truck bed next to the cab, but then I quit towing and therefore didn't have a need. It also would have been in the way of a gooseneck, but at that time I was okay with that.
In this link it is called a "partner box" to the fifth wheel (not above the rails) tool box.

I looked at it a few years ago. Several varieties are available, but they don't offer the room I need and now I carry my generators back there. My V tailgate also holds my OEM backup camera. I haven't seen a V tool box that does that yet.

The only way you can use this box with a Montana is if you have a sidewinder pin box a standerd pin box will hit on a turn.

awhite is right.
I bought one from Camping World, mounted it in the back of my truck, hooked up, and pulled out from my yard which involves a fairly tight 90 degree turn. The extended hitch promptly knocked one of the hinged lids off. The old style hitches will work well...the new extended hitches do not.
My solution was to take the box to a sheet metal shop and have them make lids that sit flat rather than a "V". I lost a lot of space, but I can still use the box for extra canned goods, dry dog food, bicycle helmets, and any other thing that we just can't figure out where to store.

I had one for a while, did not like (1) smaller storage area, and (2) had to climb over it everytime I needed to get to my front toolbox. I did not have a problem with the hitch.

I will have to look at paperwork to see the brand. Measurements indicated it will still be about 3 or 4 inches below rail of truck bed and I can't imagine how it could touch anything on turns but will investigate that further. I wanted to store a couple 5 gallon diesel cans and some other misc stuff in it for traveling but then switch out and use it for power tools while working locally. The factory tailgate can stay on when you mount one of these but I was going to remove mine.

I considered this one too, but I'd have to remove a perfectly good tailgate on my Honda CR-V, so I changed my mind.

With the Brute V-shape Tool Box how do you access the 7 way trailer plug. Mine is on the driver side, inside rear and would be right in the middle of the box without room to access or if you could probably not enough lateral clearance. Don't know for sure, anyone know?

I had a 4-foot pigtail made for me. when I have the box in, I use the pigtail. Otherwise, I just plug in.
