Shower sill plate holds water

My shower sill plate on 2019 3121RL has constant water sitting in the base of the shower door sill. I searched past threads and aside from taking a dremel tool to grind the existing drain slots lower has anyone found a better recent fix?

I also saw some had removed doors and track completely and installed a shower curtain. This might be the best option? That track is hard to keep clean???

We just use a cloth to wipe it dry after showers...

We put an expandable friction shower rod and curtain just inside the doors. Works good.

I bought a pack of the cheap foam paint brushes to clean the sill. They fit right in the groove perfectly. If you run one in each groove from outside to inside, it will get most of the water out. I picked mine up at WalMart, but here's what I use...

I bought a cheap pack of rectangular sponges from Wal-Mart and cut one of the sponges into 3 equal pieces. Slide all three into the shower door grove, squeeze out and place standing up in the shower for next time. Works great. Wish I could take credit for it but someone here in the park told me about it.

Well after long thought and consideration of the suggestions I opted to remove the glass doors. I am glad I did. This is a 2019 with literally only 9-10 months of FT living inside. Underneath the shower sill plate was a very miserable caulking job from the factory. In actuallity 2 of the bottom screws were all ready rusting and allowing water to slowly seep beyond the shower unit. It was very moist and crusty which over time would have been a disaster. It was a lot of work to carefully clean away the old caulk but worth it. I recaulked & replaced the existing screws once frame was removed with stainless hardware & am very satisfied with the outcome. I am left to think why was this not done properly from the get go???? In my opinion this was very poor workmanship for the money I paid...?

One thing I noticed about my bottom door track (maybe what you are calling a sill) was water continuously standing. I finally looked to see that all the drain holes were not put in at the bottom, but raised off the bottom almost 1/8". I used a small round file filing each "rail" at each set of drain ports until the holes were even with track base. No more standing water.

You can also use a drill bit to take it down to a flush point where it will drain into shower.

We take a strip of paper towel and fold it lengthwise until it is small enough to slide into one of the drain holes across all three tracks. This wicks all of the water out and allows the tracks to dry completely.

@ Wisconsin Retiree,
Do you have any problem with the water running under the shower curtain onto the floor?

WHAAAAT, what ever do you mean, poor workmanship? According to keystone they build a top quality product. Anyway your probably taking to many showers!

Like others, using a 12" long drill bit I just drilled a couple of holes flush with the shower door floor and deburred them. Sill plate drains very well this way.

No, I was worried that may have been an issue but I have set the shower curtain bar just so the curtain barely touched the floor inside the raised base where sill plate was mounted. Zero, splatter or spray when I am finished showering. I turn on the ceiling fan to high and everything dries out quickly. With the glass doors gone the area feels more open and seems roomier. I am very happy I removed the glass doors.

We want to do the same, but with either an arched rod or one of the rods that can expand outward when in use to create more shoulder room. We are wondering if the curtain will stay inside the shower at floor level.

I bought a three-prong mini blind cleaner at Lowe’s. It has a microfiber cover so I just set it in the tracks and wipe. I wring it out several times during the process, but it works great!

BiggarView,

I understand your point about more shoulder room but I would be Leary of a curved curtain that may actually hang outside the raised basin edge. You may have excessive water drain outside basin which obviously would be a bad deal. I will say I am no light weight at 270 lbs 5 ft 11 in. But it is easier to turn or maneuver in the shower with my curtain setup verses the doors. Much easier.
