Generator

2020 3761 FL
Generator prep package installed, now I have decided to get a Onan 5500LP unit. My storage facility quoted me 9,000. I can buy one for 4800.00. Sounds a little high for install. Anyone ever put one in? Does not look too difficult with electrical plug laying there. Thoughts? Thanks

$4000+ is way out of line for installation. If you have generator prep, it should be an easy install. Mine was factory installed, but when I was investigating a couple years ago, I had a shop that was going to provide the generator and install for about $6k. I would not hesitate to take the project on.

That's high we paid a lot less. I had ordered our from the factory but what they did was delivery it without the generator in it. The dealership added the generator at a cost of $6546.73. That was parts, Generator and installation of the generator.

Now we did have a problem when we got the unit (Montana 3931FB) home. I didn't run the generator when I was there at the dealership. When They wired the unit, the supervisor that was looking over the new kid that was working there fell down on his job. He let this kid go at it without watching what he was doing with the installation of the generator. 2 weeks later our trailer was in the shop being rewired.

When you pick up your trailer, stay there at least 1 hour with the generator running and everything turned on to load it up.

I would call out the vendor on that price and get a written quote just to watch them squirm.

They would rather make big bucks once in a while than a living all the time. Can’t blame them for that but you can let them make big bucks off or someone else. I like repeat business.

I just had one installed in my 3720RL and the tech had to add the remote switch, transfer switch, battery cables, propane lines, and the exhaust plus the misc parts needed to complete the install. He quoted 12 hour book time and the bill came to $1,319.10. Shopped the Onan generator for pricing and it appears the price is about the same at most outlets. The job was done very professionally- much better than if I had attempted the install.
