Axels/brakes/suspension
Hello to all,
We see posts of members replacing/upgrading the OEM axels/brakes/suspensions.
Was wondering what companies any of you have used. We were thinking about performance trailer but we are open to any suggestions so we can do some more research.
We understand the brakes and axels but are still understanding the suspensions.
Is the only upgrade to a Montana OEM suspension an Independent Suspension?
FYI... Currently we have the OEM Lippert road armor Trailair (wet bolt) suspension
Any info is much appreciated as we do our research.
Thanks!

We've always used Morryde for IS and disk brakes, but there are other companies and other options out there. We just stick with what we know and who we trust.

We plan to upgrade ours to Morride. The reviews by others on this website have a lot to do with that. It might be a little more expensive but being able to stay in your camper as they upgrade it at Morride is a major plus!! Sounds like they really know how to treat customers. Haven't heard anyone say anything negative about their work or their experience.

Morryde definitely knows how to take care of their customers. We had the suspension & brakes done in November 2017. That’s why they’re in business.

Ditto on Morryde for us. We have it at the top of the list this spring as soon as the weather gets" right". Only thing is the 3+ day trip from WA to Goshen...I know there might be a couple places closer , but still worth the effort and cost to go to the Morryde home. It all depends on each person and their preferences, needs and resources.

Besides the Morryde factory in Goshen there is only one other location which is in Oregon. You may want to check into it. The trip to Indiana does allow for some nice stops if you choose that route.

We're getting the MORryde IS in April based on recommendations from here and elsewhere on the net. Not sure yet whether we will upgrade to 8k or not from current 7k axles. We will be close on weight on road side of our rig with 7k axles. Also looking to add split bearings. If we go 8k we'll have to upgrade disc brakes also.
Still weighing pinbox upgrade from lippert Rota-flex model that was OEM to MORryde rubber pin box... option B is going to trailair air or fifth airborne pin box.

Ok we called MORryde and they were very helpful and informative. They also sent us info on their products.
Thanks for the input
We Are not full time and don’t think IS is what we need but
The brake upgrade is something top on our list

Why would you need split bearings? The best bearing upgrade would just be Timkens.

We are not full-timers either but went with the I.S and disc anyhow on account we still travel 5 or 6,000 miles each year or more. You have the Hensley hitch and with the I.S. you would have the best ride possible. If I were a weekend camper and didn't travel long distances then maybe just do a moderate upgrade on the suspension but some part-timers travel more miles each year than full-timers. I just did a 4,300 mile trip in October and plan on about the same in May so I am really glad I with with Mor-Ryde. If you are doing just brakes then I am sure there are people close to you who will do the disc brakes but if doing the I.S. then I would be making the trip to Mor-Ryde.

Always options. Heavier suspension, heavier axles, disc brakes, and the all IS system with ddisc brakes...a quick $7K

Thanks for that thought.
We are not in a rush to make a decision and we are considering all options.
We want to get another year under our belt towing and using it before we make any decisions. If we went the IS we would definitely make the trip to MORryde.
We took a few trips last year about 700 miles each trip and we felt it towed awesome. If there is something out there that’s safer/better it’s worth looking into.
We love our Hensley hitch. Worth every penny!

I just couldn't justify the IS on our rig even though we would LOVE it, so I installed the 8k Dexter axles and 8k disc brakes from Performance Trailer Braking for around half the price. Even though we love the rig, it is now back at the factory for the second round of repairs for the infamous "frame flex". It was gone nearly 4 months the first time and they are telling us around 10 weeks this time. I'm happy they are willing to repair it, but it super frustrating as we camp every three weeks year round as our stress reliever, and this puts a huge damper on it.

How did you like the job they did for you?
How do you like the brake upgrade?
How did you like the company?
I looked at their website and they come right to you to install.

I did the install myself in the driveway of my home.
The upgrade is the BEST THING you can do to any trailer!!!! Absolutely unbelievable.
I had a great experience with Performance as they were easy to work with and picked up the phone when I had a question.
They do have installers in each area of the country and ad most larger rallies that can do it for you and you are correct, they will come to your home.

Did you do anything to your suspension with performance or did you keep the OEM suspension?

I put new springs on too. As far as the LRE4100 I have, I changed the shear springs(rubber part) as I put in everything else. So the entire suspension got changed.
