Toilet leak

I have a 2019 Montana 3791RD and have a water leak from high up at the rear. I believe the unit high up is probably a backflow protector. I had no manual and I can’t find any manufacturers number on the unit.

I intend to buy a replacement unit from where the leak is coming from, but require the manufacturer of the toilet and the model. So from a manual that you may have been lucky to receive, can you identify the toilet for me.

It is probably Thetford, and I am aware that many have replaced Thetford with Dometic. I may get a Dometic if I don’t fix the leak, is the Dometic a straight drop in. (Will the water line require lengthening or shortening, are the base fastening bolts in the same position)

Thanks

Yes, Dometic is a straight drop in. Get the 320 now,,, or get it later after more problems!

The only thing that isn't exactly the same is, the water line connection at the back of the Dometic toilet is on the opposite side from the Thetford. I was lucky when I replaced ours that I was able to just swing the end of the PEX over, but some will need to cut an elbow into the line so it will reach.

I got a metal flexible hose extension like on a toilet at home. Then added a shut off valve and an adapter for a pex line. Pretty easy to do. Look for more detailed instructions on here somewhere.

Oh and when you get the shutoff valve, buy the contractor pack. Then after you install your new Dometic, spin around and add shutof valves under the sink. Tehn if you have time add shutoff valves to the washer lines. and if you still have time add shut off valves under your kitchen sink.
At this point if you still have a shutoff valve do not go near DW with it. They don't have a sense of humor about that and it will not go well

You might try cleaning the underside of the seal. We use a round toilet brush, and can scrub the seal underside with the brush. Our 310 is about six years old, and still seals like it did new. Otherwise, there is a two year warranty on the Dometic toilet, and at the very least, they should be able to send you a new seal kit.

Just pull the seal out and wipe it clean and reinstall. You can do this without the removal of the toilet. Just grab hold of the seal and pull it out. This is very easy to do and the reinstall is just as easy.

Both the Dometic 310 and 320 have a seal which needs periodic cleaning to keep it from leaking. Once a year or so clean it to remove any "junk" on the bottom side. It pops out very easily and reinstall is also easy but you do have to take care to get it positioned in the groove properly.

Note the valve is only open long enough to grasp the seal and pull it out. Replace it with the ball closed to avoid dropping it somewhere bad.

A picture is worth a thousand words.

Carl,
Nice video but I did get a bit sea sick as he bobbed his head and cam while talking.
One question, is the ball and seal set up the same in the Thetford? I've had no issues with ours but will likely switch it out at the first sign of trouble.
