--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have just updated my Website with several upgrades recently made to my Mountaineer.

These include:
1. Replaced kitchen faucett with a sprayer/spout model from Price Pfister.
2. Storm Door Panels added to screen doors.
3. Replaced analog Duo-Therm thermostat with a digital thermostat made by Hunter.
4. Home made Water Powered Sewer Pump.

Here's alink to the website:
http://www.geocities.com/fulltimedreamer2004/

Maybe this will give you some ideas for upgrades you can make to increase the enjoyment of your RV. Also, please post any improvements you have made. You may have the perfect solution to a problem we don't even know we have yet!!

I just did this upgrade this weekend, it took me about 15min total. The screw holes from the old thermostat matched the new one perfectly. BTW the Hunter 42999B is $19.95 at Wal-Mart (everyday low price)

No ours came with the standard thermostat. I replaced it because it seemed to be inaccurate by 5-10 degrees. The swing seemed to be excessive.

The excessive swing is characteristic of the older thermostat and is why we also installed a Hunter with adjustable swing, or whatever it's called. Ours is set on one degree. Don't know about the new thermostats.

Just finished installing our new Hunter and it only took a few minutes. I left the blue wire (hi spped fan) disconnected as I feel lo speed seems to do the job just fine. That plus Hi Speed is a whole lot noisier.
Is there a reason why I should run at Hi speed?

BTW-the part number is 42995B.

I also did this switch. Very pleased with the result. Only difference was that I used a White-Rogers thermostat, but the instructions work just the same. The only small advantage I found with WR was that there is a little more room inside the case to install the fan speed switch, if you choose to do so. I used a micro toggle switch from RS for mine.

At the rally, the Dometic rep was questioned about the remote temperature controller. I don't remember his exact reply, because I don't have that device (yet), but it was something to do with setting the functions properly on the remote. Maybe someone else who was at the presentation can remember. I think the temperature sensor is actually in the remote, so if you hold it in your hand, or put it somewhere warmer or colder than the room, it will give false readings. We will be getting one of these devices soon (packaged in a 3670RL), so I would be interested in others experiences with them.

I looked at the Hunter today but saw one for $5 more that was progamable. Is there any reason that wouldn't work? The directions looked about the same except for programing.

I did the switch tonight. What a piece of cake. I did have to refer to http://www.geocities.com/fulltimedreamer2004/ though to get the wires hooked up correctly. But all-in-all I am very pleased. I wonder why units dont come from the factory with a digital thermostat already installed? It seems like something that makes sense.

Glenn, running the AC in high humidity with low fan tends to ice up the AC unit on the DuoTherm units. This has been a DuoTherm 'feature' for years and years. Running on high speed seems to avoid that from our experiences and others' experience we've heard about. That's why we wired ours to run on high. Someday I'll put in the switch to allow both high and low but haven't seen much need so far.

As soon as I can get to a Radio Shack I intend to get a switch.
So far we haven't had a problem with icing.
