WARNING..LOCK UP THAT POWER CORD

Has anyone heard of 50 amp cords being stolen..

We were staying at a camp ground over near Wenatchee,Wash. for a few days, and I got to talking with some folks about this and that and the conversation came around to copper thieves, well now it seems RV power cords are on the list. They strike while you are not in camp. From what I have been told it happened to these folks while in CA.
My question is do we now have to take and lockup are elec.cord, and where in these flimsy storage boxes with there high security locks, are we to hide them???????????
Hey OZZ, I think you better put a recorder on those cameras , and will they work with no power???

Something else to think about

12 Volt camera, but it's hard to stop them from taking things, ask the neighbors to look out for you is the best insurance.

Even if you lock it on the pedestal, if someone wants it bad enough, they can get it by sawing it in pieces. I have never heard of one being taken, but with drug-dependent, need their fix, dopeheads running around, they would seem to make a good target. And if you were going to disconnect and stash it in the rig, that would present other problems in hot, high humidity climates.

Storing it will not help that much. If they see an RV, no electric cable run, they will assume it is in the compartment. Break the lock on the door and still get the cord. We live in a violent world.

Don't worry about it. What's a $150 if it should happen. You will be more hurt emotionally than financially.

Now I do lock my PT-50C EMS, but it comes with a locking collar. Even then, it is just to keep the honest people from having a dishonest moment.

When camping, I take the excess cord and coil
it in a small circle and put the rear stabilizer in
the middle of the coil, not on the cord of course.
I figure if a criminal of opportunity drives by he would
take the easier to get cord just laying there.

Bear,
We've been RVing for about 10 years now and we know of no one who has had their power cord stolen. As a matter of fact very few things have been stolen. I've left my large camera outside on my handicap cart overnight many times and never had it taken. Even down in Mexico we had absolutely no problems. One of our friends, however, had a cooler taken one night. The thieves must have been some teenagers looking for some cheap beer. But they were surprised when they opened up the cooler and saw only dog food!! They left the cooler a couple of trailers down.

We've found that in general RVers are some of the most generous folks in the world. Just take the usual and reasonable precautions and you should be just fine. Good luck. Dennis

We had friends a few weekends ago while camping with our Good Sam Group had their Carry-Out Sat Dish stolen. They unscrewed the coax and cut the power cord.

When something is stolen from you, in addition to the actual monetary loss, you feel violated. It's a frustrating feeling to live with the fact that someone has taken something of yours that you worked hard to get. The icing on the cake is finding out that the insurable value of the item is just below your deductible.
+1 as to HamRad's post ... LOTS of good people out there that RV and camp. Always good to be mindful of security to help you keep what is yours.

It could happen..but we always hear stories about things being taken 2nd or 3rd hand. In well over 25 years of rv'ing we have never had anything taken or know 1st hand of anyone who has.
It is hard to stop theft of any kind unless one hires a 24 guard around the RV. Take proper precautions is teh bst one can do.. We have entered and left a C.G because it did not look or feel right.

I can tell you first hand about the WireGuard Carry Out Automatic dish that walked away during the night, because we were there. And about the deductible, yet they had a $1000 and the unit is just under that. They now have a new on and a steel cable and padlocks to lock it to their rig.

I have seen only one letter to the editor in Trailer Life mag about a power cord being stolen...since that was a year or so ago, it may have actually been part of an ad for power cord locks!
