This salesman was doing what Some, but not all, salesman do.He had the unit on the lot and will say most anything to you to sell it to you..If he thinks he can get away with it..he made you as a novice and was taking advantage of you. (We sold these things also, we have seen everything) It is likely that the dealership will sign off on about any deal a salesman makes, as long as the dealership make bucks. It does not say well for the sales staff or the dealership and I doubt that I would buy from them..but..I would go back and let the dealership know that you are on to them and that @ 5000 Montana owners are on to them..In fact I would print out this thread and read it to the owner..Not saying that you should but ole Rich would take great pleasure in doing that....

Rich,

Funny thing is this was the same dealership that I almost drove clear to WA to purchase my unit, so I know they know how to make a deal and what it takes. I think you're right, they just found someone who hadn't really been exposed to how the deals really work. In any case, I'm sure this has left a bad taste in people's mouth about a dealer that up until now I was impressed with.

To give the dealership the benefit of the doubt they 'may' not have approved the the salesman's deal. The salesman can write most any kind of a deal then takes it "back" to have it ''approved" so it is not his fault if the deal does not fly. However the dealership should have issued "ground rules for the salesman. When we sold these things we knew exactly what we could could and could not do. I would be suspect of the dealership in this case.As many of us know if the salesman makes you as"knowledgeable" you will get a fair deal and they will make a fair profit. There is always the next guy.

I other suggestion...

Make a copy of this thread and take it into that idiot of a dealer. Show him what other Montana owners think of his crap and if your saleman isn't also the boss tell him you want to speak to a higher authority. Maybe if they realize they aren't dealing with the average RVer they may change their tactics. After they apologize and are now willing to deal excuse yourself and get in your truck and head down to LaDonna.

You know, I have a new found knowledge now. I want everyone to know how much I really appreciate your input and advise on this.

Mac, By the way while talking to the sales guy he did inform me that Foley's did have new ownership now. Maybe that's why there is a difference in the sales tactics.

Carol, Thanks for your post. I got a big kick out of it.

Rich, I believe that I would have been the "Next Guy" for this salesman if not for the GREAT people on this forum.

I believe as of today the forum has saved me about $10,000.00

Blue,

Do you want an address where to send my share of the $10,000???

Maybe that was what happened because it was almost a year exactly that we were talking to them, as I stated the only reason I didn't buy it there was the drive, even though it would have been a little cheaper I preferred having a local dealer and by the time the fuel was factored in it would have been a wash.

It is called negotiation! I never got the buyer with "sucker" written on their forehead--everyone beat me up pretty good (and some times I helped). You are the only one who can say YES. The dealership may have a new sales mgr or it is the assistant sales mgr. on duty, or the boss needs to make the condo payment---who knows. Go read the data tag on the 5W and see when it was mfgred. If it has been on the lot a while (over three months) you should be able to get a better deal. If it is the "must have" model, then they have a little more power in dealing. Just don't leave too much on the table--they are making a lot of Montanas!

Actually, if you do go back to this dealer, you are the sucker. Sorry, but thats the truth. It is indeed a tragedy that there are dealers like this in the rv industry or the retail business of any kind. It would seem to me that Keystone should and would monitor their dealers and make sure they provide a service to their customers.

Hopefully, Keyston considers us "their" customers and not the dealers. Instead of taking a copy of this to the dealer, a better idea may be to send a copy to keystone themselves. They could have lost a valued customer because of one dealers stupidity and greed.

Until people begin to stand up for themselves , some others will be prey. This forum is a perfect example of standing up for yourself. I'm relatively sure Bluegil got the message and I hope he learns from this experience and doesnt get taken by a sucking, greedy, lying, coniving , leach of a salesman, and by a dealer who cannot or will not control the sales tactics of their salespeople.

Boy , that felt good !!!!!!!!!!!!

You are welcome for the laugh, after the day you had yesterday, you earned it! (The dealer sure did not! ARGHHH)

OH, and if you are Michigan State people, you wear green!

In all fairness.. Foley's wasn't always that way. We bought our unit there. Since then they havve sold out to Freedom Roads which is affiliated with Camping World. It is still called Foley's and I can bet that will change with time. Our contract did not have a PDI charge. And we took our sweet time going through it (thanks to the forum). Change is not always good and we would seriously consider Tacoma RV if we make an upgrade in the future. They are a good dealer, they just were too far away and Foley's was local. Good luck in your negotiations.

No more Su*ker here... new attitude.
Eye of the Tiger now.

Thanks everyone for rooting me on. I feel like Rocky in between rounds getting pumped up.

I will make the trip down to Tacoma next weekend to talk to Ladonna and see what they can do for me there. I noticed on their website they have a few 06's left on their lot.

Thanks again

Just want to add my 2 cents worth. We are looking to get a 2006 2980 and have acquired a number of bids. So far Foley's has beaten LaDonna's price by $430.
Based on info from another thread I called Costco and was told that Foleys is the only Montana dealer in Washington state that can offer their "Member Only" pricing.
By the way my best price so far is from D&L in Wenatchee.

MMM,
I bought my 2006 2980 from Tacoma RV. Lose the $430, or better yet, tell LaDonna (owner) that Foleys is beating the price, bet she will drop the $430. I went through my invoice with a fine-toothed comb, no hidden charges and the unit was fully equiiped with all of the accessories. No suprises. I found it was real hard to compare apples to apples, they were all equiped a little different, and I was real pleased when I asked about the accessories that my unit had them all. If you'd like, I'd be happy to show invoice offline. I know nothing about D&L in Wenatchee.
Best of luck and congratulations on choosing the BEST model. :-)

Peace!

yep, RUN! They are going to charge you almost $900.00 to show you the rig you just bought?? Without knowing the details, I'd say that dealer is a scam artist, and I'd sure look elsewhere.
