I'm the same way, this is a new issue for me. Never met anyone who ever had this problem.

When we were living in our rig full-time in Alaska our small LP tanks would freeze. We ended up getting a 100 pound tank to solve the issue. However, until then we had to keep the small tanks working. With the approval of our LP provider we used heating lights (such as those you use on reptiles) positioned in the tank compartment aimed at the regulator. It would keep the regulator warm and the LP flowing without any issues. I saw just the other day that you can now buy a regulator heater (which was nothing more than a glorified reptile heater and a lot more expensive).

I agree with Oz,propane doesn,t freeze but it will gel upwhen using 30 lb tanks. It happened to me at-47. We simply switched to a 400 lb pig and now we have no problem at all with either the furnace or the genset.

Last Winter our 30-lb tanks froze up, so we just switched the frozen one for a thawed one and kept that up. Dave was superb at keeping track of how much was used from each tank. Last Winter was a bear indeed; the river by us actually froze up! Living in Minnesota a few years ago, we had seen lakes freeze, of course, but I had never seen a river do that. Exceptional cold spell we had for a while and I'm hopeful this Winter will be milder again.
