OH NO! it is snowing

We stayed too long in Beloit, it is snowing. We will try to head south Thursday and we were hoping not to even SEE the white stuff. Oh well, it started as just tiny flakes now is the fat fluffy ones. I had to go out and put the Bra on the Duramax also. That is one cold blooded beast. It took a 30 mile drive yesterday to get up to operating temp so we could get some heat in the cab. The truck came with both the small bra for the grill and the big one for the bumper and air dam under the bumper. It is holding in the 20s at the moment so the small one will work for now. If the temp heads lower as into the single digits I will put the big one on also. Hopefully I won't need to and we can head south before that kind of weather hits. We will be spending one day helping my sister-in-law pack up the apartment then rest for a couple days and then head back to TN... Dave

Does the duramax have a block heater. If it does plug that in and that helps warm up the truck quicker.

LOL, the Ramada here doesn't provide electric for block heaters. We get heat but it takes a lot longer to get it when it is cold outside. With the bra on we get it right away... Dave

My Duramax came with a block heater with attached cord. It was not an option, standard equipment.

BTW...what is snow?

Wayne, the rig is in TN, we needed to make a speed run back for the funeral. Motels farther north provide outlets for block heaters, but not in southern Wisconsin.. Dave

My Duramax has also never seen the winter months. Is there a general rule of thumb on what temp to put that bra on?

I pretty much put it on when it takes more than ten miles for the engine to reach 180 degrees. That is about when the good heat starts to flow into the cab. And that usually starts at between 20 degrees and zero. I have it on now and it is supposed to get to 16 tonight.. I sure hope Thursday comes soon...Dave

Drove to work this morning and seen some of that stuff trying to show its presence. Seems like a long time until camping season for us; but since I drive the tow vehicle to work I can always pretend that I’m going camping!

I told my son, “I should get a small car to drive to work in” and he said “you wouldn’t drive it;” well he’s probably right. I like driving the truck!

The exhaust brake that I installed on our Duramax restricts the exhaust air flow until the engine reaches 150 degrees. This warms it up faster. I hope that will be all we need when we start traveling in colder weather.
