6 Pin Connector
Do your plug in your Montana 6 Pin Cord to the 12 Volt plug below your bumper, or do your have one in the bed of your pickup truck?

Is there a problem with using the connector below the bumper for towing the Montana?

It depends. On my truck the plug is low enough that with the length of the cord from the rig it would frequently drag on the ground without some type of spring arrangement. Since I don't want to deal with a spring arrangement I moved the bed plug to an area where I could use it. Where the OEM plug was is where my generators ride so I moved it closer to the hitch.

On my previous truck the bumper connector was the only one I had. Used it for years with no problem. Current truck has both bumper and in-bed connectors. I normally use the in-bed connector. But on occasion I have used the bumper connector with no problem. In my case the cord is not long enough to reach the ground when connected.

In Bed, and not that it matters much, but it's a Seven Pin Connector, six outer blade contacts and the round center contact.

I agree with Michelle that it is a seven pin plug in. It used to be referred to as a Seven Prong Bargeman verse a four pin flat etc. I have one below the bumper and also one in the front driver side of the bed. They both worked the same. Since I have put my Truck Trunk back in the bed I can not access the front one anymore and am using the bumper one. I have no problems with it dragging.

I have one in the bed of the truck, drivers side rear. Also under the bummer. Could use either but use on in the bed of truck. I figure less chance of catching it on something.

Husky makes an adapter that fits in between your factory 7 pin bumper plug with a 6 or 7 Ft cord with a plug on the end. So you don't have to splice any wiring. The back of your bumper plug unsnaps and you can fit the Husky plug in between and snap back together and run cord into the bed of the truck where you want and add the 7 Pin female Plug onto the cord. Just Google Husky Wiring Adapter RE-13100 and it has a picture of the set up. I found out about this after I made my own set up. Easy way to add a plug in the bed a real time saver. Hope this helps you.

The truck bed is preferred, but at the moment we have some wiring issues with that connector. Until that is repaired we are using the bumper.

We have both the bumper and the in-bed plugs. I use the in-bed when towing the Monte and the bumper when I'm towing the light flatbed trailer and the electric/hydraulic dump trailer.

Previous 2 trucks I had a second 7-pin plug installed in the bed so the cord didn't hang over the tailgate and rub on it. This truck has a second 7-pin plug factory mounted in the bed. In bed plugs makes hooking up a lot easier and the cords don't rub on your tailgate or hang to low and snag on things.

I only have the bumper plug. No issues. The cord reaches fine and does not hang to low
