Crazy 2015 weather
January thru June was the wettest on record here. July thru September was the third driest on record. Now we have had the most rain ever on a single day in November. Most rain for November. And broke the old record for most rainfall in a year at over 56" and counting. We had 7 1/2 inches rain here from Thursday evening thru this morning. Local flooding again. And unfortunately the usual deaths from cars washed away in high water. Light rain to continue into tomorrow. Glad we live on high ground.
In general, I don't think there are any problems on major highways if you happen to be traveling thru this area. But not a bad idea to check TX DOT or other source if traveling any secondary highways.

Normal is about 39".
Edit: I should add 39" is about normal for DFW and central TX areas. More for east TX and coastal areas. Much much less for far west TX.

Has this extreme moisture spread down in the RGV? I know is has been very warm down there for the last month or so.

The heavy flooding rains have been from the San Antonio and Houston areas northward to OK. The latest rounds have been more toward north TX.

Well hopefully it is over for a while. Over 10 1/2" from Thursday evening to yesterday morning. Sunshine tomorrow, maybe.
We hit yearly normal back in June. Another month like this and we may double it.

I can't even imagine 10.5 inches of rain in a few days in our mountains. We live on a hill to but it would be months before I could get out with a car or truck. Our bridge would be gone and if it wasn't the state bridges would be gone and then the roads would be covered with rocks the size of beach balls.
I feel for the people down there. Good luck!

There does seem to be more weather extremes throughout the country anymore. The CG we had been using for extended summer stays in central Illinois has been flooding out on average every other year for the past several years. Before that they could go 5 or more years without getting flooded out. We liked being on the river, having cheap rates, and getting our same spot each year, but have finally moved to another CG.
No matter if you buy into Global warming, or any of the theories out there, it sure appears our weather patterns have changed.

I bumped into a website about the drought in CA. A prof from Santa Clara (or Cruz) said the artic ice is melting. So the north Pole air mass is not extending as far south. As the earth turns, this cold air mass used to stir up the atmosphere and keep temps moderated around the hemisphere. Since it isn't happening, the big jet stream that used to go down the Pacific states and then sweep back up have shifted. They now start way up in Alaska and sweep down thru Montana/Wyoming into Texas and then back up. So CA doesn't get the rain, but apparently Texas does.
It is the first thing I have heard about climate change that actually makes sense.
Oh, and the artic ice melt has nothing to do with CO2 emissions. The earth's orbit around the sun is elliptical but keeps shifting with each pass. So over 10,000 years the North Pole temps change. (brief summary)
