Here is my Issue, what would you do?

As you can see we presently have a 2955RL, fits our lifestyle and how we RV perfectly. We are thinking of upgrading to a 2015 3160RL. So far so good. But, on the refrigerator/TV/fireplace slide there is an outside entertainment center with its own separate exterior awning, so in effect this Montana has 2 outside power awnings. Here is what I don't like, we cannot have a slider awning installed, either by the factory or the local dealer. I have never had an uncovered slider if nothing else to channel water off and away to help prevent water leaks into the coach. Our 2005 has never leaked, but we always had slide awnings.

I am to the point that this is a deal breaker for me, am I being too anal about this slider not having the ability for an awning?

Any honest ideas or comments would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I know a bunch of people without toppers on their Montana's and SOB's and they do not have leak issues, the only reason I love them is because I do not want to get on the roof anymore and clean off my slides

"As you can see we presently have a 2955RL, fits our lifestyle and how we RV perfectly' .......You answered your own question.

In retrospect we could say the same about our 06 3400. All the bugs and problems had been worked out. We had installed upgrades that suited our travel lifestyle. A few new decals G614 tires and a few minor repairs were all we needed. We got the new Montana fever and went for it. We should have spent a few bucks on the 06 3400 and kept it. We also always had toppers and never had a leak.

I wouldn't let the lack of a single slide topper be the "deal breaker". I've had slide toppers and by choice now don't have slide toppers. My RV experience still goes on with no leaks and less wind noise from the flapping here in Kansas.

We don't have toppers...and had one huge leak. That was a screw up at the factory, once repaired, nothing has ever leaked.

No topper and No Leaks here. Frankly I don't think I would even want the toppers. JMHO

We have never had slide toppers and just don't see the need for them. The right floor plan/size for us would certainly be more important.

For us a bigger deal breaker would be the fact there is no access to the fridge without extending that slide.
If you look around, I think you could find a service center who could lower that awning on the slide just enough to enable the addition
of a slide topper. I had planned to have that done to our SOB (same basic setup with the awning on the slide and no topper), but we've decided to upgrade and solved that problem, factory now mounts the awning a little lower leaving room for a topper.

Never had a slide topper in close to 20 years of doing this.

Present rig has no toppers, and I have never had a leak.

I would not let one slide topper be a deal breaker for me is the unit fit my need. However, if a slide toppers is what I wanted on all slides I would have the dealer to order it with slide toppers on all slides and eliminate the second awning.

We have never had a leak around slides with our 2010 3150RL and do not have toppers.

We have always had toppers, but many many folks prefer to not have them and do just fine

Did you check all awning manufactures. We have plans to order a New SOB next year. The company has slide toppers and extra awning on same slide out. Perhaps it was positioned just for that kind of install I do know they only offer canister type topper awnings for SOB we like. Might check that out if I were looking. From photos I just saw, there is room IMHO. BTW, I saw a trailer last night in Mt Gate with second awning and slide awning! Check out "Carefree" "Girard". Spelling might be off on last one. Lol

Lastly, I don't believe "slide toppers" were designed for preventing leaks. No slide should leak on an RV unless damaged or not maintained. I believe in slide toppers for keeping tops of slides cleaner. My recent post discussed mold I experienced on top of a slide. I keep better eyes on them now!

We have had 5th's with toppers in the past and opted not to include them on current one. Our reason is the noise from the flapping during the wind. I also have seen problems with tears on slide toppers that will cost money in the future.

I do really like the tops of the slides clean so it was still a hard decision.

Even with toppers the slide roof still gets wet so if there is a leak it won't matter if you got slide topper or not...myself since we don't live in an area with trees and lots of leaves they would be more trouble then they are worth...
