Dually Comparisons

Interesting article in the February Motor Trend Magazine. Names new Truck of the year and goes into details. Having had a 2010 F-350 which I sold and bought a 2011 GMC, I found IMO the article quite accurate. All these are great trucks, just a matter of preference.

Looks like it's (2011 Motor Trend Truck Of The Year: Chevrolet Silverado HD).

Illini nailed it - the Chevy, they claimed it beat out the GMC by one point. Don't know how that happens, except for cosmetics since they are essentially the same truck.

Hats off to the Chevy crowd, from worst to first. Perhaps they can now repay the debt they owe. I expect to see GMC win a Nobel Prize next, category TBD.

Mike-- Chevy paid their debt back about four months ago from what I understanding! That's why they put the extra effort into their new units. The comparison in one of the camper magazines put Ford as #1 but the Chevy was a very close 2nd. Ford got it on cosmetic aspect. The Chevy was outstanding in the acceleration, uphill and downhill towing runs and beat the other Big Two hands down.

So are you saying that the government does not have controling interest anymore? Now if all that money that was loaned came back that must be good for all.

I read that Chevy was the best in that shoot out between the big three, chevy and dodge had 4:10 gears, and ford had 3:73 gears thats why Fords milage was a little better than Chevy and Dodge.

I guess it all comes down to our personal desires, they all have desireable features. Heck, I would own a Dodge now but would have to sell my house and move out of state after all the grief I've given my Dodge owner friends over the years.

I could be happy with any of the 3 as they are all towing machines, I just have had very good luck with owning almost exclusively GMs with no major problems the past 28 years. I thought it was also funny that the Chevy beat the GMC - same truck!

Rambling just a bit off topic, but concerning the comment that GM has paid back its debt ... does not anyone else find it hard to comprehend that 2 years ago GM was supposedly sooooooooooooo far in debt that they couldn't see daylight, yet after a massive tax payer funded "loan", a mere 2 years later they've paid back BILLIONS???? The screen just went blank on my TI calculator trying to get my brain wrapped around this.

It "happens" because it really comes down to personal preference...as you noted before.

I thought this was a thread about the big three duallies and not govt paybacks. I have an '08 Chevy 3500 HD dually and love it. Best truck I have ever had, out of my last three trucks, two were Dodges. They were great trucks also. In my mind the proof is in the frequency of repair rates. As you all know, any of the big three diesels can pull just about anything and are safe doing it. Just because one has three more horsepower and ten more pounds of torque is a very negligible difference. In my three years with this truck, the only problem I have had is the windshield washer heater had to be removed, for which GM gave me a check for $100.00. Heck, I didn't even know the windshield washer fluid had a heater. I scored 100 big ones, KaChing!!!! I really wanted a Ford, but the Chevy guy made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I feel I made the right choice. Didn't think I would like the new body design, but it kind of grows on you. Anyone owning any of the big three diesels should be proud of their trucks as the manufacturers have done a lot to dress them up and make them the tops.....

If I had to advise someone on which to buy, I would say go try them all out and pick the one with the best ergonomics for you, especially if you are full or long timing. I spend a lot of time in my truck and it fits me to a tee....

Just to set the record straight, GM Duramax/Allison trucks only come with 3.73 gears. 4.10s are in the Gas trucks. Been that way for years.

Just out of curosity . . . I just got a coupon in the mail from my home dealer offering to top of the nitrogen in my truck tires for free, assuming they had leaked down, of course. For one thing, the nitrogen isn't supposed to leak as readily as air and (2) anybody know if/when they started actually filling these tires with nitrogen?
Logic would dictate, marketing gimmicks aside, that they wouldn't offer to "top-off" the tires if it wasn't already filled with nitrogen.
I dunno . . .

jdrobone. if your truck has green valvestems then the truack has nitrogen in the tires .not a big deal to top off the tires .but that is how they get you into dealerships.next thing they will offer to do your oil and ends up costing you money.i had nitrogen in my tires, the bad part is if they need topping up you have to go to a place that does that.with air i can do it anywhere or do it myself.did not notice any difference between air and nitrogen.
