2011 Ford flash?

Saw in another thread that Ford has a new flash coming out the end of the month. Anyone here know what it is for?

Ford Unleashes 800 Lb-Ft of Torque In 2011 Super Duty Power Stroke Diesel
August 03, 2010
By Benson Kong

It looks like the previously unsubstantiated report was true after all. Not content to play second fiddle to General Motors' 6.6-liter Duramax diesel with 397 horsepower and 765 pound-feet of torque, Ford will raise the power figures on its own 6.7-liter Power Stroke through a engine software upgrade. The final output? A Duramax-topping 400 horsepower and 800 pound-feet of torque.
Last month, word through the grapevine was Ford was considering an ECU revision for the 2011 Super Duty's Power Stroke diesel V-8 in response to the new LML-series Duramax. The new Power Stroke was originally rated at 390 horsepower and 735 pound-feet of torque, with peak torque coming at 1600 rpm.

"We know that durability and reliability is uppermost in the minds of our Super Duty customers, along with torque and horsepower, so we took a conservative approach that ensured that the new Power Stroke would be absolutely bulletproof while delivering significantly improved power," said Chris Brewer, chief engineer of the 2011 Super Duty.
According to Ford, the free engine software will take 30 minutes to install. Current owners can pay their local dealers a visit starting August 31 for the adjustment and all new Super Duty trucks from here on will be fitted with the software.

Will and should GM or Cummins respond? Have your say on the heavy-duty truck power struggle below.

390 hp is certainly enough to pull my rig. I am more interested in what the additional horsepower does to the mileage. If it increases, well and good; if not they can keep the additional 10 hp.

The individual truck owners for years have upped the anty on HP and
Torque. Now the manufacturers are playing the game. Kudos to Ford for not only doing it but using it as a checkmate to GM in the battle of HP and torque. Ford wins this round.

Question: what else have these manufacturers been holding back...GVWR, Axle ratings, etc. If so maybe we can get rid of the weight police next.

Ford's new 6R120 transmission was designed to handle 1400 pound feet of torque. The 5R120 in the 08 through the 2010 was designed to handle 1200 pound feet of torque, and I can tell you first hand it will do it without a problem. My truck is putting out over 1100 rear wheel TK It doesn't slip or get hot. 800 pound feet a walk in the park.

Dealer told me it's supposed to increase fuel economy by about 5%, Remember now, that's a dealer talking.

The dealer is probably wright the more horse power these diesel trucks make the better fuel mileage you get. When you tune the 2008 - 2010 Ford, the Spartan 310 horse tune gets the best fuel mileage. That tune should give you about 690+ fly wheel HP.
