Water softener at CW

Just purchased the On the Go portable water softner at camping world in Indianapolis. These are the ones that regenerate using table salt. CW has them on sale until 12/28 for $248.00 for club members. This is about the cheapest price I've seen on these and wanted to pass along the sale info in case anyone else is interested.

Is hard water a problem where you stay?

"Is hard water a problem where you stay?"

Seems to be around here. Wife really likes the soft water at the house and wants the same in the RV. Since we are looking at fulltiming in the next few months (if the house sells) I figured I could take advantage of the sale price and keep the wife happy at the same time. Kind of a "win/win" situation.

Phil,

I'd really be interested in how well that thing works. Up here in the northen end of the state, we get into really hard water.

Keep us posted.

We have one of those and LOVE IT!!

There is a hard water area type map on their home page, lots of places in the USA that has less than stellar water.

It is wonderful, and love the table salt part, small stuff to tote around, and very easy to obtain, every grocery store has some, and cheap.

We don't use for overnighters and stuff, just long term use.

And they really help if you have a W/D, especially the new HE models. Even less detergent... Dave

Ok guys and gals I have a question about the softner. We have a water softner on our well at home. We don't drink the water as there is a salt taste in it after it has been through the softner. I do cook with it, just reduce the amount of salt I use.

Is there a salt taste in the softened water? Do you have a salt residue on your fixtures?

Colleen,

Like Ozz, we do not notice the taste, but we do use drinking water and distilled water for our coffee.

We do NOT notice any salt residue, actually, the opposite is true, any mineral stains we have disappear after a few days of use of the soft water. And, our tank sensors actually worked after several months of being subjected to the softened water. We were TOTALLY shocked by that!

Al also runs two water filters, at the moment, I cannot remember if those are before or after the water softener. I think before, ?????? He has 2 kinds of water filters, 1 of each.

I asked this when the softeners were discussed a while back and never got an answer. Will the softener extend the life of the anode rod in the heater? Anyone ever notice?

VanMan,

I can't answer about this softner, but it,the water softner at home, does extend the life of the anode rod in our home hot water heater. The softner extends the life on all of our appliances that use water.
