Newbie confusion Bedroom Window

I don't get it, the bedroom window has a sticker that says "Emergency Exit Only" but it has a screen. Does this window open for ventilation? I have been afraid to try not knowing why it doesn't open like any of the other windows with a slide or a knob.

Yes it opens. You lift the handle/lever up slightly to clear the lip and swing the handle perpendicular to the glass. you then "push" the handle straight out through the glass and the lower half of the window moves out like the old style louvered windows.

Just be carefull of the screen ! They are "buggers" to get back in place! I fought with ours to get it back in, had the window open, shade down and apparently the little "furball" was on the dresser and must of wanted to see out and pushed the darn thing out again!!! There is no clearance in ours. The woodwork around the dresser is right up tight to the window. If I ever have to take the day/night shade off it looks like we will have to take the woodwork off. OK gotta go fight with the darn thing again! Told hubby I was duct taping it to the window this time...

Unless you have dual pane windows. I understand that they do not open like the single glass windows do.

Ditto on the screen warning. Took us a while to get it back in place.
