Axle Rating....

I have a stupid question....

How do I find out what my axles are rated for (6K or 7K)? I have a 2007 Montana 3400RL.

Thanks,
Chris

It should be stamped on the axle. Our 2007 3400RL had 6000 pound axles.

The axle rating is usually stamped on the back side of the axle near the middle. You may need to clean the axle with some something to make the information more easy to read.
On the newer units the rating is printed on the sticker on the left front above the jack and also stamped on the back side of the axles.

Joe

On Edit: If you see D60 that is a 6000Lb axle. D70 would be 7000Lb axle.

As mentioned either an adhesive sticker is on the axle or you can look closer as they are also stamped along the tube itself. Being an 07 ... I'd bet you have a 6000# axle some of the 05 and earlier models had 5600# axles under them. My 05 2980RL did. Unfortunately most all the manufacturers equip their units with the bare minimum running gear.

Thanks. I felt stupid asking but now I realize it was a good question.

Based on other posts I had seen, I figured it was a 6K. I will double check for myself to be sure....

Thanks,
Chris

Our 07 3400 has 7,000 lb. It`s stamped on our axles and also on the sticker on the drivers side by the front of the trailer.
I also think all 7,000 lb. axles have a higher GVW , ours is 15,500 lb.

There should be a decal with all the weight ratings for your trailer on the inside of one of the kitchen doors.

Most RVs will have an RVIA sticker as described on the driver's side front corner. There will also be a sticker in one of the backfaces of a kitchen cabinet door. Hopefully the like numbers match even though some of the categories listed will be different (gross weight, axle weight, ccc, etc.) My Monty declares 6000 lb axles on the front corner, no mention of this in the kitchen label and I haven't checked the axle, yet.

To be sure, I should check the actual ratings for an item to ensure there wasn't a manufacturing foul up. The axles and wheels, hitches, and such have their own labels. My axles should have a D60.

Forgot to mention... there are NO stupid questions in the MOC. Stupid answers, maybe but no stupid questions.

They changed to 7k axles with those built starting around December, 2006. Ours was built in August 2006 and had the 6k axles. It now has 7k axles.

Chris, if you don't want to crawl under looking for the axle tags, just check the sticker on the side of the rig, usually the left front corner. It will show the GAWR axle rating there. You'd have to crawl under to verify it, though.

Also, if the GVWR on the outside sticker or the sticker inside a cabinet door, is 13,975 or thereabouts, you have the 6k axles. If it's closer to 15k, then you have the 7k axles. When they came out with the higher gvwr I asked a Keystone engineer what changes they made to come up with the higher capacity. I was told they only changed the axles. Since we run heavy, we switched to the 7k axles on our Montana.
